Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been house-hunting in New York City for a while now. A few months ago, the Michigan native put his 8-year-old Beverly Hills mansion on the market and decided to move to NYC. The retired boxer termed the decision to be from a business perspective as ‘Money’ is heavily operating his real estate business from New York and needed a place there.

Last month, he officially introduced his new firm VADA Properties in New York, making the move apparent. While the 50-0 boxer has decided to build luxurious homes for people, he is looking for one himself in the City That Never Sleeps. Well, it looks like he has finally found his desired property, as a $49.5 million villa has caught his eye.

Last week, Gimme Shelter exclusively reported that Floyd Mayweather was touring the city’s most expensive rentals. However, it looks like he is done with the rentals, as according to an exclusive report in the New York Post, he has now set his sights on a $49.5 million Gilded Age mansion. The five-story home, built in 1898 for JP Morgan’s cousin and business partner, James Goodwin, sits on Fifth Avenue, across the street from the Museum of Modern Art.

The Midtown Manhattan villa, off of Fifth Avenue, is made up of 50-foot-wide brick and limestone. Designed by architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, the villa consists of 11 bedrooms and has 12 fireplaces. The hand-crafted woodwork gives the mansion a royal look.

While the current zoning of the mansion allows for mixed-use, as it is a combination of two separate townhouses, the former boxer can always remodel it to his liking. Something he is known to do while flipping properties. Real estate developer Orin Wilf bought the property back in 2019 for $55 million.

An Indestructible Walk-In safe

Since its inception, multiple organizations have used the property. A while back, this $49.5 million mansion served as a headquarters for the US Trust Company. This resulted in the mansion having its own 17-foot-deep walk-in safe bank vault with bullet-proof windows.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has openly stated his preference for keeping substantial cash on hand. He has spoken about his habit of ordering large sums of money via Brink’s armored trucks. With Mayweather’s habit of always having cash at bay, the 17-foot-deep bank vault in his own home is a dream he would love to have.

He can store quite a substantial amount of money, and the additional security installed by the Trust Company will keep his worries at bay. Finding a permanent home in New York will also help him focus completely on his new real estate venture.
