Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s response to Ryan Garcia‘s doping controversy seems to have gained considerable traction. Why? While explaining, the undefeated former champion primarily spoke about himself and what he did. Perhaps that isn’t what many of the fans expected from a boxing great. So a whole lot of them joined in, giving a piece of their minds.

It’s been some time since the boxing community saw the young boxer from California and the former five-division champion form a close bond. Mayweather Jr. even named Ryan Garcia alongside Gervonta Davis (now Abdul Wahid) and Canelo Alvarez as the three biggest names in boxing today. With a slam-dunk victory over Devin Haney, ‘KingRy’ was on a career-high. However, he has been on a slippery slope ever since, especially with the reports of him failing to clear drug tests for the April 20 clash.

I just know I was always a clean fighter; I can’t speak for nobody else,” said ‘The Money’. Then further revealing, “Do you know what’s so crazy? I’m the one that started random blood and urine testing, and everybody had a problem with me bringing that to the table.

So according to him, everyone should have followed ‘The Floyd Mayweather Way’. Then probably they wouldn’t have found themselves in such a quagmire. That pretty much summed up what the boxing great had to say about Ryan Garcia returning positive results based on consecutive tests done for banned substances.

It was early in May when reports came that, based on the samples taken a day before as well as on the day of the Haney fight, Ryan Garcia had tested positive for ‘Ostarine’. Contesting the findings, the former interim lightweight champion placed a request for his secondary sample (B sample) to be tested. Unfortunately, they only ended up confirming the initial observations.

Probably what triggered fans’ ire could be the sheer absence of ‘KingRy’s name and the incident from Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s response. A few fans tried shielding him, but the overall vibe from the comments smacked of displeasure. Let’s check how some of the users reacted to the former world champion’s reply.

Me & Myself?

This user seemingly questioned Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s credentials. They went back to the ‘Fight of the Century’ with Manny Pacquiao. At the time, reports came that ‘The Money’ received an intravenous injection that was banned under WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) rules.

Then the next user also appears to be ticked off by the boxing legend’s response. So tweaking the boxer’s name Floyd to ‘Roid’, they apparently took a dig that the former world champion was completely believable.

The next follower called out Mayweather Jr.’s deceit. According to them, the former champion would avoid fighting outside Nevada. The primary reason being that it was the only place where he could take banned injections into his hand.

But then a fan jumped, claiming that Floyd Mayweather Jr. may not be fabricating anything. However, they acknowledged the prevalence of rumors that claimed how the former world champion played around with the random testing method.

Then this fan completely agrees with Mayweather Jr. Emphasizing the dangers involved in boxing, they said that the undefeated former champion remains one of the greatest in the sport’s history.

Maybe Floyd Mayweather Jr. could have said a word or two about Ryan Garcia. Or maybe fans can await how things unfold for the young boxer in light of the recent findings. His case now rests with the state athletic commission. It will decide whether there will be any repercussions or reprieve for ‘KingRy’.

Probably, ‘The Money’ has a plateful of issues going on that must have distracted him from addressing the main issue. His name made headlines for the much-publicized online spat with former charge and mentee Gervonta Davis. Then doubts persist over the fate of a tentative exhibition match in Mexico. He last fought John Gotti III, which ended in the most controversial fashion.

What’s your take on the reactions? What, in your opinion, would happen to Ryan Garcia now?
