Money: The Life and Fast Times of Floyd Mayweather is a biography that tracked Mayweather’s life from a childhood in poverty to becoming the highest-paid boxer of all time. Moreover, this book was written by Tris Dixon, who was the former editor of Boxing News and also co-wrote the autobiography of Ricky Hatton.
Floyd Mayweather Sr was once awarded fake wins
The first chapter of the book, Human Shield, had an interesting account of Mayweather Sr’s life. In the late 1970s, Mayweather Sr. and Vonzell Johnson became a part of a “boxing scandal”. Notably, Johnson was Mayweather Jr’s godfather.
Boxing promoter, Don King, was working with ABC Sports on the United Sports Boxing Championship. It was in this tournament that Ring Magazine was accused of falsifying fighter’s records to hype the event. The magazine had allegedly pocketed USD 70,000 to work on the ratings for the event. And editor John Ort had taken USD 5,000 to inflate the rankings.
It was reported that Mayweather and Johnson along with Richard Rozelle and Greg Coverson were awarded eleven fake wins in total, between 1975 and 1976. However, ABC Sports uncovered this information and went on to cancel the tournament.

Mayweather’s relationship with his father was estranged, to say the least. Mayweather Sr was a hard taskmaster who instilled fear into the hearts of his children. Talking about the same, Mayweather Jr said, “I was a young kid, and I had a father. I don’t really wanna say it was a fear, just my dad [and] I never wanted to let my father down. Because my dad done so much for me. When I say he bent over backwards, I mean, no matter what my dad did. When he went out and hustled every day in the streets, every day he made sure I got to the gym.”
He however credits his father with pushing him to be a successful boxer.
