Khan had met Mayweather in Dubai ahead of his exhibition bout with ‘Dangerous’ Don Moore. Talking about his meeting with Mayweather, Khan said, “Floyd said to me ‘Look, we should get it on.’ “
He further mentioned that Mayweather asked him to postpone his retirement. Khan said, “I said ‘Brother, tomorrow I’m going to announce my retirement.’ And he goes ‘No, I don’t think you should’.”
Khan also added that he refused a potential fight with Mayweather. He said, “Obviously, pro fighters say to you all your life ‘we should fight each other’ and they keep you on the side, on the bench and I’m like forget that man, I want to be in control of myself.”
FightHype‘s Ben Thompson sent Mayweather a text message regarding Khan’s statement. In response, Mayweather refuted his claims, saying, “Ben, everything you are hearing about Amir Khan is not true. I seen Amir Khan in the lobby of the Armani hotel in Dubai and he asked me to get on one of his social media pages with him and I did. 100% false.”
With Mayweather denying Khan’s claims, it seems certain that a potential Mayweather payday is nowhere in sight for ‘King’ Khan.
