Floyd Mayweather Jr. shared an Instagram post with fans. It showed a poster featuring UFC fighters Alex Perez and Tatsuro Taira. The duo are all set for a flyweight clash at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. On the poster, June 15 appears as the date. What? Hold on, isn’t that the date when Gervonta Davis fights Frank Martin at the MGM Grand as well?

Now all the fans know about the online feud going on between Mayweather Jr. and Davis. So is that why the former shared a UFC Fight Night poster? To lure the fans away from the PBC-Amazon Prime PPV with Gervonta Davis and David Benavidez headlining the co-main fights? From the comments, it appears that many fans seem to think so.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Attack from the flanks?

Boxing Kingdom’s tweet read, “Floyd Mayweather is now telling his 30 million followers to watch the UFC on Saturday night.” They left it at that. Perhaps fans and followers are smart enough to draw their own inferences. In fact, a user did ask why Mayweather Jr. posted the message. And the response, “Bc he wants to troll tank since he’s fighting on the same day (they’re beefing again),” came.

It’s been sometime since fans witnessed the former mentor and mentee going after each other publicly. Gervonta Davis parted ways with Mayweather Promotions after the Rolando Romero fight in May 2022. Initially, they enjoyed friendly terms. The entire Mayweather machinery backed Davis as he took on Ryan Garcia roughly a year later. However, cracks in the relationship soon started raising their ugly heads.

Initially, ‘Tank’ was reportedly unhappy when access to the Mayweather gym came under restrictions. Later this year, he reportedly took offense at some of the comments Mayweather Jr. made about the younger generations of boxers. Subsequent posts saw him calling the former world champion a ‘hater’. Davis claimed that the latter had been confined to Dubai on account of some unresolved debts. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fired back with a video that showed ‘Tank’ dancing. Some time later, he shared an Instagram post with ‘CANCELLED’ spread across the Gervonta Davis-Frank Martin fight poster.

Below the belt, boss!!

It seems the same poster is now available on his Instagram story as well. Followers can view it before it disappears. Anyway, from the comments, it’s easy to see that many weren’t happy about Mayweather Jr.’s move if it was genuinely aimed at Gervonta Davis, as a user highlighted. Let’s check out what some of them had to say.

Calling Floyd Mayweather Jr. an ‘elite hater’, this user thought that in view of the clash with the boxing event, the UFC must have changed the schedule of the ‘Fight Night’.

This user also seems to believe that Mayweather Jr. must be disliking (Gervonta Davis?) from the bottom of his heart.

This follower called out that Money’s claims of promoting some of the best PBC boxers, along with Al Haymon, are blatant lies. According to them, the former world champion perhaps isn’t too keen on watching Gervonta Davis sit at the top of the game. Finding the entire affair disappointing, they mentioned that it could probably be the reason why most of the boxers are leaving Mayweather Jr.’s stable. The follower observed poignantly that despite having all the wealth in the world, a person could still end up being unhappy.

Then the following user told the Olympic bronze medalist that it was beneath him to have acted so vindictive.

The next follower recalled receiving a scathing response from a Mayweather Jr. fan for pointing out a similar fact. As they had highlighted earlier, the undefeated former world champion essentially doesn’t want ‘Tank’ Davis to scale boxing heights. The matter between the two has hardly anything to do with money.

After last year’s hugely controversial John Gotti III fight, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has yet to make a ring return. There were rumors of a Manny Pacquiao rematch. Then talks of a fight in Mexico City with former opponent Victor Ortiz appeared. But the boxing legend’s next move remains largely unconfirmed.

The debate might continue about whether Floyd Mayweather Jr. tried to distract fans’ attention from a boxing main event. However, to many fans, it is equally distressing to see two of the much-loved boxing figures engaged in public spat. Perhaps a common ground was found, and they could have settled their differences for good.

What’s your take on the reactions? Do you also agree with what some of the users said about Floyd Mayweather Jr.?
