Lightweight world champion Teofimo Lopez has never appeared to be a massive fan of ‘TBE’ Floyd Mayweather. He has always acknowledged Mayweather’s stellar achievements. However, he has vowed to surpass all of them in his career. Besides, Lopez has sparked rivalries with some of the best names in the Mayweather Promotions.
All these factors have infused some major differences between Team Lopez and Team Mayweather. Unified 135 lbs champion Lopez’s father Teofimo Lopez Sr. has now also ridiculed ‘Money’ Mayweather and has highlighted the prime differences that both sides have.
Following the Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant bout at the MGM Grand, Lopez Sr. shed views on how his son’s journey will differ from Floyd Mayweather’s while interacting with Fino Boxing.

Teofimo Lopez’s father said, “I am not with that Floyd Mayweather sh** you know and that’s why Floyd is scared of us. But I don’t want to talk about Floyd. He was one of the best but it’s time for somebody else to reign over him.”
Floyd Mayweather‘s prime protege Gervonta Davis holds the WBA belt at 135 lbs. Akin to Teofimo Lopez, Davis is also undefeated and is currently one of the biggest names in the lightweight division. This validates a scrap between the two. However, none of the ongoing scenarios cites the fight to be close to fruition.
Lopez and Davis have their respective opponents onboard. But on defending their titles next, we can see them collide in 2022. It’s still early to predict the fight happening. Well, that won’t stop Teofimo Lopez from marching towards greatness.

‘Take Over’ Lopez became the unified world lightweight champion by vanquishing Vasyl Lomachenko in 2020. That fight is clearly a milestone in Lopez’s career. One of the greatest of the era, Lomachenko, was a terrific force to deal with inside the ring. However, Lopez beat him in style and raked up his spot amongst his contemporaries.
He still has several tests left in the division. The 24-year-old has amassed tremendous success in his career so far. However, he still has several more things to attain before he can compare himself to Floyd Mayweather, who is a five-division world champion and has remained undefeated all his career.
