Naoya Inoue is gearing up to make his second undisputed title defense in the super bantamweight division. He will be going up against TJ Doheny in Tokyo on September 3. The two-time undisputed champion will be going into the upcoming showdown after a successful title defense against Louis Nery earlier this year. The four-division champion has been able to hold onto all of the super-bantamweight belts after defeating Marlon Tapales last year.

The mid-week event promises some star-studded undercard fights like Yoshiki Takei vs Daigo Higa (bantamweight), Jin Sasaki vs Qamil Balla (welterweight), Ismael Barroso vs Andy Hiraoka (super-lightweight), Toshiki Shimomachi vs Ryuya Tsugawa (super-bantamweight).

The co-main event will feature Yoshiki Takei defending the WBO bantamweight title against Daigo HigaMoreover, Ismael Barroso will be defending his interim WBA super lightweight title against Andy Hiraoka.

The event will be promoted by Top Rank. The company’s chairman Bob Arum is banking on the two high-profile main-event fighters to pull in the crowd. “Naoya Inoue is a generational talent, and every time he fights, the boxing world stops to watch the master at work. TJ Doheny is a veteran who can never be counted out, as he’s defied the odds many times when fighting in Japan,” Arum stated.

The thirty-seven-year-old Irishman Doheny will be fighting for the fifth time in Japan. He seems to have arisen from a slump, going on a three-fight unbeaten streak before his upcoming fight with Inoue. Previously, Doheny has suffered four defeats in six fights. Notably, he has also never been knocked out in his career. He also wields an impressive knockout ratio of 76.92%.

However, ‘The Power’ will be facing his toughest battle yet facing the four-division champion Inoue. The decorated, undefeated boxer has won all of his twenty-seven fights, twenty-four of them via knockouts.

On the other hand, the fighters have already successfully concluded their weight ins with Inoue coming in at 121 3/4lbs, and Doheny weighing 121 lbs for the 122-pound limit fight.
