Laila raises concern over boxers’ diet practices
When Laila Ali was in training for her fights, food was merely fuel devoid of flavor. She consumed bland oatmeal, protein shakes in powder form, and heaps of egg whites. Maintaining a specific weight was crucial to preserve her world champion title. So on the day of weigh-ins, she had to eat as little as possible and rely on sweating it out. It was a frustrating scenario where her body needed nourishment the most, but she couldn’t provide it.
In contrast, growing up as Muhammad Ali’s daughter, she observed her father indulging in whatever he desired before a match. During those times, her diet was majorly dictated by the family chef, Edith. She would make the most comforting but healthy cuisines. The lifestyle influencer now takes better care and provides better fuel to her body. Nowadays, Laila typically delays her first meal until around 11 a.m. Even then, she opted for a substantial salad made from leftovers from the previous night after her workout.
