Now that the ‘Ava’ story is over, where will ‘Boots’ step in next? Will he stick around at 147 pounds and test the waters? Go for title unification, slaying one champion after another? Or will Jaron Ennis proceed with the higher goal—Terence Crawford? But for that, he might have to leapfrog to the division above. After conquering the welterweight, ‘Bud’ announced his entry in the third weight class and has a fight in hand. Many questions, but none are clear, at least for now.

DAZN Boxing asked fans to chime in with tier views on the matter. As if they were just waiting for something like this to happen. Comments have been pouring in ever since the post came. It’s either this name or someone else. There’s no dearth of suggestions. But it’s exciting to see such participation taking place for one of the rising stars of boxing.

Through their official X/Twitter handle, DAZN shared Jaron Ennis’s snapshot. They wanted to know which boxer was best suited to step up against ‘Boots’ for the next outing. At the Wells Fargo Center in his hometown, Philadelphia, the IBF welterweight champion ably defended his title against David Avanesyan.

Yet, this resounding victory has brought forth a host of new inquiries. In the post-fight in-ring interview, Chris Mannix asked for his preference on the next fight, including a potential clash with ‘Bud’ Crawford. Jaron Ennis replied that he’d be happy if he got a fight with the Nebraskan southpaw or, for that matter, any of the big names in the welterweight division. “Let’s get it; let’s make it happen,he said.

In his own weight class, he can look forward to a fight with the WBC champion Mario Barrios, or the WBA’s regular title holder Eimantas Stanionis. But if he decides to move up a weight class above, as Eddie Hearn hinted, he would be looking at a roster of some powerful heavy-hitters. Let’s not forget the division is now playing host to ‘Bud’ Crawford, Errol Spence Jr., and Vergil Ortiz Jr. as well.

One for ‘Boots’ to Boot-Out

Needless to say, each fan who commented has one to suggest or the other. But some still thought that a fight with Crawford may be a tad unrealistic. Let’s check what a few of them had to say.

This fan considered a match against either the unbeaten Lithuanian Stanionis or fellow Philadelphian Blair Cobbs as good alternatives. ‘The Flair’ recently raised his stakes with the dominating victory over Adrien Broner.

The next fan, though, felt that Errol Spence Jr. or Mario Barrios might fit the bill more suitably. Spence Jr. announced his entry in the light middleweight division and reportedly faces Sebastian Fundora for an October fight.

However, the next user rather had a word of caution for Jaron Ennis. According to them, if he goes to the light middleweight, then aside from Crawford, the likes of Israil Madrimov and Tim Tszyu would be waiting for him.

To this follower, however, the honor of putting a stop to ‘Boots’ Ennis’ unbeaten journey might fall on Vergil Ortiz Jr. The 100% KO specialist has also joined Crawford and Spence Jr. with a fight in the 154-pound weight class next month.

However, to this fan, the issue is not of opponents, but Ennis going inactive for a prolonged duration, like how it happened after the last fight, Roiman Villa.

There’s an interesting take on the issue from one of the well-known boxing commentators. Responding to HE Alalshikh’s tweet, they suggested that one of the ways in which Ennis could get a fight Crawford could be a match with the IBF’s light middleweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev. Given they are champions under the same sanctioning body, perhaps the chances of getting a matchup appear relatively easy.

What is your take on Jaron Ennis’ next opponent? Who would you prefer him being matched against?
