Title fights are the most hyped events in boxing. Though they take place each year in different weight divisions, some become so legendary that they define the sport’s reach. Like the Maypac contest between the legendary fighters of the modern generation, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. It was probably one of the biggest events in boxing history.

But a fight between legendary heavyweights Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier that took place about four decades earlier still remains unmatchable in many aspects.

Till that point, it was the most watched event across the globe. The anticipation was so complex and uncertain that the tension witnessed before that event was never seen again. Keeping in mind the hype of the event, boxing experts labeled it as the ‘Fight of the century.’

Though Frazier, who was favored by experts as a favorite, emerged victorious by decision after 15 rounds of back and forth, Ali became bigger than the sport.

The post related to this event recently surfaced on Facebook. A page named Boxing History reported it and wrote, “Joe Frazier sends Muhammad Ali to the canvas in the 15th round of their unforgettable first fight, won by Frazier at Madison Square Garden in 1971.”
