Is Canelo Alvarez losing his touch, or are fans being too harsh on him?

‘Pound-for-Pound King’, that’s how Terence Crawford was introduced as he walked in to meet the ‘Nebraska Cornhuskers’. The football team of ‘Bud’ Crawford’s home state was all set to face archrivals the ‘Colorado Buffaloes’ at the FBS Finals. The game followed the team’s resurgent win over the ‘UTEP Miners’ on September 1. And what better way to keep the momentum than rope in one of the biggest figures in boxing?

It seems not only the footballers but even the fans found themselves motivated as they came across a video of ‘Bud’ Crawford interacting with the team and the head coach, Matt Rhule. Early in August, the Omaha-born champion moved into uncharted territory as he fought Israil Madrimov for a light middleweight title. Many fans couldn’t prevent themselves from pouring their hearts out as they saw Crawford sharing his beliefs and thoughts with the ‘Huskers’.

A compilation of videos, the footage first features the day leading up to the Colorado game. Following loud cheers and claps, Terence Crawford said, “I like this energy already,” he said. Then he checked with the players, “How are you all feeling?” “Good,” came the response. ‘Bud’ checked once again, “How are you all feeling?” This time the response was a bit louder and clearer.

He continued, “These moments don’t come too often. When I walk into the ring, I don’t care who they are. They haven’t fought me yet. I’m not getting pushed over. I’m not getting run over. You gotta have that attitude. We got the ball; we’re going to send the message. They got the ball; we’re going to send the message.

The next sequence showed him, wearing a ‘Huskers’ t-shirt, giving a pep talk during the halftime. In the final sequence, after the Nebraska Huskers defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 28-10, Terence Crawford received the game ball from Matt Rhule. “I appreciate this from the bottom of my heart. Just keep punching the motherf**kers in the mouth y’all,” said the four-division champion.

Driving excellence across the board

In his Instagram post, Terence Crawford shared how his dream finally came true—the honor of leading his home team onto the field. Let’s check what some of the fans had to say.

Though amused, this fan appeared happy to see icons such as Terence Crawford and Nebraska Huskers joining hands together: “Loved seeing this!! My two favorite sports franchises come together, lol.” Then adding the goat emoji for ‘Bud’, the next fan seemed certain that the champion’s speech played a crucial role in the Huskers’ victory. “I’m convinced they won because of this speech 🐐,” said the fan.

To the following fan, Terence Crawford is not only an outstanding boxer but also an exceptional person outside the sport. Expressing their love and pride for Crawford, the fan acknowledged that he is someone who always sets a high standard not just in his sport but in other aspects of life as well. In a rather straightforward and heartfelt message, this follower pointed out that Crawford deserved all the acclaim that has come his way in a storied career. They said, “Congratulations, brother; you deserve it. All the success you have is awesome.” The next fan called out Canelo Alvarez. Terence Crawford has been chasing him for a fight for quite some time. So the fan wanted the super middleweight champion to take notice of the impression Crawford left. “Bro, y’all see how this man is talking. Come on, Canelo, where are you?” said the fan.

Clearly, to have a figure like Terence Crawford come and talk about his challenges and the way he fought back goes a long way to enthuse and inspire anyone.

As far as boxing goes, it’s not clear who Terence Crawford will be fighting next. His dream fight with Canelo Alvarez may not happen, at least anytime soon. So he could go for a 154-pound title unification. The move would cause him to cross paths with Vergil Ortiz Jr. or Sebastian Fundora, and then the much-anticipated fight with Jaron Ennis is always there to consider.

Who, in your opinion, would make the best matchup against Terence Crawford?
