The partnership between Don King and Adrien Broner seems to have started showing some cracks. Or is it just a promotional tactic? Who knows! The Hall of Fame promoter has put together a boxing event at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in a co-promotion with Kris Lawrence’s The Heavyweight Factory on June 7.
The event is geared to feature six title fights, featuring Adrien Broner vs. Blair Cobbs. While Broner never fails to capture attention because of his polarizing personality, this time, the reason why fans are buzzing about this event is something different. What’s that? The answer lies in a tweet from boxing insider, Mike Coppinger of ESPN.
Adrien Broner no longer the main event

Yesterday, Coppinger shared the official poster for the fight, which, let’s just say, looked like something straight out of the 90s. However, Coppinger had spotted something even more interesting. He wrote, “Actual official Don King fight poster for June 7 card at Seminole Hard Rock. Not only is Adrien Broner-Blair Cobbs no longer the main event, it says the fight will happen ‘if Broner shows up.’ Only in boxing,”

It’s worth mentioning that Broner, who parted ways with long time world class boxing trainer Kevin Cunningham, has fought under King’s banner twice. However, King’s latest fight poster suggests things are heading for the drains. Regardless of whether Broner shows up, the situation seems to have sent fans into a laughing fit, who mocked the poster and the disclaimer about Broner relentlessly.
Fan unwilling to pay for the Don King promoted card
Don King had fallen out of the limelight a long time ago, but continues to promote minor events now and then. When compared, the Broner-Blair fight is perhaps the most talked about event, that too—not for the good reasons. One user reminded King that it’s 2024, and not the 80s, seeing the quality of the poster while highlighting the abysmal telecast of the Adrien Broner-Bill Hutchinson fight.
Don king need to get with the Time with this old ass looking poster lol it’s not 1982 it’s 2024 even with the production this how the broner vs hutchinson look on tv lol pic.twitter.com/zFoih7URUT

Another user echoed somewhat of a similar sentiment, questioning whether anyone would even want to pay for such a fight card. Despite all the flaws, the card does feature some rising stars, like the Norair Mikaelian vs. Ryan Rozicki fight for the former’s WBC Cruiserweight title.
Come on ppl actually gon pay to see this card? 🤦🏻♂️

Meanwhile, this user couldn’t get over the dated poster or the disclaimer about Adrien Broner, sarcastically branding the poster the best. King, like his predecessor PBC, has struggled to put Broner in the ring after several postponements.
This has just become one of the best fight posters ever. That AB disclaimer has me rolling!!!! 😂 https://t.co/3KgXp0s64W

Someone else asserted this is the funniest thing they have ever seen within the boxing community. However, it would be funnier if Broner really doesn’t show up for the fight.
This is one of the funniest things I've seen in the sport. https://t.co/Ewpc8ITPXx

The next user roped in Staples, suggesting the poster looked like it was made and printed there. King’s current events are often under-funded and low budget, so the truth can’t really be too far from the user’s assertion.
Damn this poster looks like it was made and printed from staples

Since the poster went live, Adrien Broner hasn’t responded to it yet! Regardless, Don King seems to be undeterred about letting the show go on without ‘The Problem’. Only time will tell what happens next. Until then, let’s know what you think about the poster!
