The Super Middleweight is going through a unique conundrum. The Interim champion David Benavidez defended his Super Middleweight title convincingly against Caleb Plant. On the other hand, the undisputed champion Canelo Alvarez would be defending his titles from the Briton John Ryder‘s challenge. While Benavidez called out Alvarez for a September face-off, the latter reportedly seems keen on a Light Heavyweight clash with Dmitry Bivol. At least the Super Middleweight undisputed champion’s promoter Eddie Hearn believes the Benavidez fight could be on the back burner.

Recently, Mike Tyson’s son Miguel shared his prediction for the rematch between Alvarez and Bivol. Meanwhile, Hearn told Seconds Out live, “Canelo Alvarez will fight anybody. Let me talk about Mexican Monsters – did you see what Canelo did to Caleb Plant?… David Benavidez is a much easier fight for Canelo than Dmitry Bivol at 175 lbs. Great fight, but it’s a lot easier than Bivol.

Following up, ESPN Ringside shared a message through its Twitter handle. The message read, “Eddie Hearn believes Canelo will choose the “tougher fight” in Bivol over a fight against Benavidez.

For obvious reasons, among the many who saw the message, a few shared what they thought could have been the best recourse.

Fans believe Canelo should first rumble with the ‘Mexican Monster’ before taking on the ‘Russian Bear’

User @MichaelGar93 pointed out that it would be wiser for Canelo to take on David Benavidez first. The former is already thirty-two, whereas the latter, six years junior, has just started getting into a form. Hence the intelligent thing to do would be to take on Benavidez before he turns into a full-blossomed Middleweight monster. Fighting against Bivol is a tough ask, but barely any seems excited about the prospect, he exclaimed.

User @cantguardgaIIup also seems to believe that Bivol would become a much more formidable opponent for Canelo though the latter should be used to his fighting style. But for sure, it would be foolish to assume that Benavidez wouldn’t offer any resistance.

User @LazyLozo stated matter-of-factly that fighting Benavidez would excite the fans more. A match against Bivol may help him avenge last year’s defeat, but it would be a waste of time if he loses a second time. He says Canelo must exercise utter caution in picking the next fight.

User @Skeezy89 believes that Canelo deliberately avoids a clash with Benavidez since it’s much riskier. He’s not on a firm footing, even against Bivol.

Lastly, user @Mixatli seems to have a different approach. He believes that while Bivol would be the most formidable opponent, there are other worthy match-ups in the division, such as between Benavidez, Jermall Charlo, David Morrell, or even Demetrius Andrade.

Interestingly, Hearn also believes that Benavidez has some interesting opposition in Charlo, Morrell, and Andrade lined up for an upcoming face-off. While Canelo’s fights are showcased on DAZN, Showtime takes over whenever Benavidez’s fights come.
