Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal is one of those actors who give their hundred percent while playing a role. The Oscar-nominated actor has become widely known for going the extra mile for his roles which only proves his dedication to his job as a professional. Therefore it wasn’t surprising when he made an out-of-the-world transformation for his 2015 boxing classic Southpaw.
The movie dwells on the life of Billy Hope who hits rock bottom after losing his family and falls into depression. His encounter with a former boxer gives him hope to stand up once again and rise to the top of the boxing world. To play a professional boxer, he worked with professional boxers, trainers, and nutritionists to build the body of a professional fighter. This was not all as he revealed his training routine for the film in an episode of the Howard Stern Show.

He stated that he trained twice a day every day for 5 months. He also revealed that he would run three miles which became eight as time went on. In addition, he added heavy bag workouts to his routine as well to better replicate a boxer. Gyllenhaal’s transformation was quite evident in the movie where he looked in peak physical condition. Even to the point, some fans speculated that it was not natural. However, it is unfair to make such assumptions without evidence, as it can damage an individual’s reputation. In addition, Gyllenhaal’s transformation for Southpaw is a testament to his commitment to his craft and his willingness to push himself physically and mentally to achieve his goals.
