Gervonta Davis finally decided to put his foot down. Concerns regarding his next outing have been sweeping across social media. Over a few cryptic messages, the pound-for-pound best revealed that the much-anticipated fight against Lamont Roach Jr. would follow the planned schedule. Over a year after the rousing victory over Ryan Garcia, the Baltimorean returned for a title defense on June 15.
After forfeiting the initial rounds, Davis ended the fight against Frank Martin in his trademark style. Ever since, discussions about his next fight have become a regular feature. Hopes of a title unification dashed as champion Vasyl Lomachenko decided to pull out of the talks. Chances of a square-up against Shakur Stevenson also surfaced, only to evaporate as weeks passed by. Finally, Lamont Roach Jr.’s name appeared. But just when things started settling, reports emerged that the fight could face postponement to a later date. It was time; ‘Tank’ fired his first shot.

Actually, the latest revelation followed a user’s query. They wanted to know why everyone’s talking about the Davis-Roach Jr. fixture not taking place in Houston and why the fight may have a new date. Thankfully, he received a prompt response.

“I’m still fighting in Houston,” said Gervonta Davis. Some half an hour later, he further added, “Everything still a go.” Now fans might recall ‘Tank’s earlier tweet that followed a Michael Benson update. The talkSPORT editor shared news about the possibility of the Davis-Roach Jr. fight being shifted to co-headline the clash between David Benavidez and David Morrell. The two light heavyweights will face off on January 25 in Las Vegas.
Strictly speaking, it wouldn’t have been a new experiment as Gervonta Davis and Benavidez headlined the main and co-main fights of the June 15 event. However, Davis, yet again, rubbished the rumors as “Cap” in a post on X.

On October 25, veteran writer Dan Rafael shared that the possible reasons behind the postponement of the Davis-Roach Jr. fight might have been some issues related to the venue. “Venue issue may be reason I’m told. Might happen as planned but unclear. 1 deemed it “50-50.” Could get pushed to early ‘25.”
There’s a reason no formal press release or press conference has been made yet. Everything is on hold at the moment until everything is done, apparently with the venue. No issue in terms of the fighter deals, I’m told. https://t.co/gdFbV30QH8

Later, he added, “There’s a reason no formal press release or press conference has been made yet. Everything is on hold at the moment until everything is done, apparently with the venue. No issue in terms of the fighter deals, I’m told.” Therefore, there is a very real possibility of a change in the date, but the venue, it seems, will remain the same.
So there it goes; fans finally have some heads-up from the story’s central figure. Though given the fact that both ‘Tank’ and Roach Jr. are from the East Coast, many fans might be asking themselves the reasons behind holding their match in Texas.
