Eddie Hearn recently shared that star draw Anthony Joshua should be back for the year’s second fight, tentatively, by September 21 at London’s Wembley Stadium. He pointed at a few names who may line up against the former unified champion. So far, so good. Any further details? Yes, there is. It’s related to the potential undercard, though. Incoming reports suggest that heavyweights Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke might enter the ring again to end the argument left open since their first clash.

Most fans might recall that at the O2 Arena, the duo met with Wardley’s British, Commonwealth, and WBO European heavyweight titles in line. The battle went the whole distance. However, it was a bloody, messy affair, with the Ipswich-born boxer suffering a broken nose. Not that Clarke was left unshaken. Nevertheless, if the fight kickups, fans might be in for a double delight. The return of the heavyweight division’s two most exciting prospects should add that additional pizzazz to the Riyadh Season show. Let’s check out how this news bit came about.

Ben Shalom, the founder and CEO of BOXXERR, Frazer Clarke’s promotions, was in conversation with ‘Seconds Out’s Ayman Khan. “What’s the latest with the Wardley versus Clark rematch?” The latter asked. Hinting at the rumors of Fabio Wardley joining Queensbury Promotions, the reporter mentioned on discussing with Frazer Clarke.

It seems the Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist is rather keen to have a rematch. However, given the uncertainty, he will be upset if Clarke-Wardley 2 doesn’t happen. ‘Big Fraze’ appeared fine with the idea of getting into an interim bout. Probably after that, he and Wardley could circle to settle their account. “What can you tell us in terms of the latest regarding that rematch?” quizzed Khan. Ben Shalon concurred that, like everyone else, he too would like to see the rematch happen. But things haven’t been that straightforward either, the BOXXERR CEO said.

But there is an alternative. “Yeah, I think I’m the same look we’d have loved to. I can’t lie, we’d have loved to do that um rematch and we were hoping to do it at the end of August um, and yeah, for whatever reason it hasn’t happened, but there’s potential, I hear, for it to go on the Saudi card on September 21st, which is another great option,he revealed.

The draw helped Fabio Wardley retain his belts. However, he has yet to make a cut among the top ten ranked heavyweight boxers as listed by sanctioning bodies. Whether a rematch appears on the horizon, the 29-year-old cannot afford anything short of a victory to seize the challenger’s shot. The same holds for the 32-year-old Frazer Clarke as well. He might be relatively young in terms of experience. But with him turning 33 in September, time is not a friend he can count on. A win over Wardley might push him up in the rankings.

What’s your take on the Wardley-Clarke rematch? Who would be your pick for the win in the second edition?
