A man of many talents, Daniel Ricciardo has proved himself in many fields even beyond the track. However, the Australian shocked everyone when he won a surprise trophy for McLaren. No, we are not talking about the maiden Monza win with the Woking outfit. Ricciardo won the equally thrilling McLaren Turbo Poker Series back in July 2022.
The Australian, who hadn’t played poker in 10 years, won the series after only an hour-long tutorial before the tournament. What’s more incredible is the players he was pitted and won against.

The Australian sat at the same table as former world boxing champion Carl Froch, professional poker player Jamie Roberts, and Party Poker president John Duthie, among others.
Ricciardo’s inexperience showed as he lost all his money with one hand. However, after being bought back into the game, the then-McLaren man won the series. Ricciardo then shared his delight exclusively with Daily Star Sport.
He said, “Winning is always fun. I am a competitor, so winning always sweetens it.” He also revealed his last poker game was 10 years ago but he won’t wait that long again.
“Last time I played poker was ten years ago and I kind of just threw it all together again. After I was thinking, ‘why haven’t I played in ten years’ because I really enjoyed it today. I like the banter as well. I can just imagine [playing it] with a few mates and stuff,” he concluded.

Speaking to hosts Will Schofield and Dan Const, Ricciardo revealed, “I was good at cross-country as a kid. Well, I say I was good, I came in 4th in like into school. So, I wasn’t a gun. Good at everything, great at nothing. Jack of all trades.”
