Undefeated boxing star Mikaela Mayer will finally get an opportunity to actualize gold when she faces off against Ewa Brodnicka. Ewa will put the WBO Junior-lightweight title on the line and can gain exposure off the touted prospect. Mayer has looked formidable ever since she turned pro in 2017 after having a stellar run as an amateur.

The contest is set to take place on October 31, 2020, at the MGM Grand Conference Center. Top Rank’s boss Bob Arum has been high on the (13-0 / 5 KO’s) fighter in Mikaela Mayer and promised her a shot at gold. Moreover, she has maintained a streamlined schedule despite testing positive for COVID-19 on June 9, 2020.

Bob Arum has testified as to Mikaela’s skill set and she will be going into the bout as the A-side. She has managed to exert her will onto her opponents and will look to continue the trend going forward.

“[Mikaela] has asked to fight the champions and I am confident she will make a statement to the rest of the women in and around her weight class,” said Arum. “We’ve watched her progress since her pro debut and she has turned into one of the premier fighters in female boxing. This WBO belt will be the first of many world titles for Mikaela.”

Mikaela Mayer lays it out

There seems to be no room for doubt in Mayer’s mind as to her ability to clinch a championship belt. What’s more, she believes that her opponent in Brodnicka won’t provide much resistance to her inside the ring.

“I’ve made huge improvements to my boxing skills over the last 10 months,” said Mayer. “You saw some of it in my last fight against Helen Joseph but I’ve reached a whole new level [during] this fight camp. I’m more than prepared for this WBO world championship fight and I will absolutely be going home with the belt. This fight will not go the distance. Ewa Brodnicka is not on my level and her time is up.”

The Polish champion in Brodnicka is undefeated in her own right and has already made four defenses to her title. She will look to swipe some shine of Mayer who hasn’t given her much of a chance in the bout. Moreover, her newly minted signing with Matchroom boxing’s Eddie Hearn has further boosted her profile within the boxing community.
