What is the upcoming Mike Tyson-based web series on HULU all about?

The new Hulu series is named ‘Mike’ and will be premiered on August 25. It will be an eight-episode series, with the portrayal of fragments from the boxer’s life. Surprisingly, the teaser has just been released and fans are already excited about watching and experiencing the legend’s life. The series is written by screenwriter Steven Rogers and the team behind I, Tonya.

As per ‘DEADLINE’, Hulu defines it as “An unauthorized and no-holds-barred look at the life of Mike Tyson.” The series covers a wide range of topics from the boxer’s life, offering viewers a more in-depth look. It contains snippets from Tyson’s personal life, career, popularity, fortune, failures, and a variety of other events that turned him into the man he is today.

Mike Tyson’s role will be played by…

Trevante Rhodes, best known for his role in the film “Moonlight,” will play the iconic athlete. The 32-year-old actor from Louisiana, United States, looks all buffed up and into the character for his role in the teaser.

Rhodes rose to prominence after co-starring alongside Mahershala Ali in the 2016 classic ‘Moonlight.’ The film received widespread acclaim and received multiple awards, including three ‘Academy Awards.’ Laura Harrier, Russell Hornsby, Harvey Keitel, and Li Eubanks are among the other members of the cast.

Mike Tyson isn’t the only subject of the Hulu series. Although it’s called ‘Mike,’ it’s much more than that. The plot centers around the ascension of a young man from rags to riches. However, there is a grey region that encompasses several events throughout Tyson’s life.

It doesn’t just center on Tyson; it also depicts the realities of bigotry, money, and power. It’s more about the dark secrets that lie beneath the glorified image of the American dream. It is organized in a chronological sequence of how he became a world-famous athlete, how that affected his personal life, and other events that occurred as a result.

We can’t be sure what the full series is about, but we can certainly wait for it to air and learn about the life of such a divisive man.

What is Mike Tyson’s involvement in regards to the series?

Apparently, ‘Iron Mike’ is not in support of this show and has slammed its makers. As per ‘Variety’, Tyson posted on Instagram, “Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising. This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story.” 

Eventually, the Instagram post was deleted later and Tyson has not been part of any promotions or any such thing related to the series. However, another series featuring Jamie Foxx is in the works, and it is being helmed by Hollywood legends, Martin Scorsese and Antoine Fuqua. This appears to be the show that the boxer wishes to support and is pleased with.

Interesting moments in the teaser of Web Series “Mike”

In the teaser, Mike Tyson, as a child, runs through the streets. The scene moves via a sequence of visuals depicting Tyson as a child, a teenager, and an adult fighter. The video abruptly flips to several angles, depicting various episodes in the protagonist’s life.

Furthermore, it doesn’t glorify Tyson, but it does highlight the boxer’s good and bad phases. In addition, it also shows how they’ve become enmeshed in his opulent yet glittering life. Moreover, it depicts intriguing moments such as him encountering a lovely woman who is suspected to be Robin Givens. It also reveals his relationship with Cus D’Amato and Don King. Additionally, it includes some disturbing scenes of the fighter in misery and rage.

Nevertheless, the teaser reveals that the show will not be based only on the life of boxing legend Mike Tyson. Instead, it reveals the man behind the massive icon and who he truly is.
