The two fought in what was one of the first major events after the COVID-19 shutdown. The fight lived up to expectations, and Lopez pulled off an upset to beat the Ukrainian. The majority of fans agreed with the decision; Lomachenko called foul play.

Lopez said he will not give the Ukrainian an immediate rematch after the fight. Instead, he wants to fight the other big names. However, he has now explained his stance on the rematch. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Lopez said, “Because imma be a d*k. Because everybody was being a d**k to me and my father.”

Clearly, Lopez was not happy with the lack of respect before the fight. This showed in their contract too, which did not include a rematch clause. Of this Lopez said, “You didn’t want to put a rematch clause on our contract, you know, you ain’t want to… there’s a lot of things. I can get real dirty into this. But I’m not. I’m going to look the other way.”

Teofimo Lopez says he is looking for bigger and better things.

With his victory over the Ukrainian, Lopez can now call the shots with his next move. So the champion spoke about this too. He said, “I’m looking for bigger and better things. This is where I determine what my future is going to look like and how I determine it.”

However, he made sure he will not be one of those fighters who picks and chooses his opponents. “And it’s not going to look like a cherry picker. Never that,” said Lopez.

These comments suggested that he wants all the big names in the division.

After his victory, Lopez said he would like to fight WBC champion, Devin Haney. The WBC belt also happens to be the only one missing from his collection.

Despite this, he has also stated his desire to move up to 140. Either way, we now know that his next fight will not be a rematch with Vasyl Lomachenko and now, we know the reason why.
