Former four-division champion Adrien Broner made a successful return to the ring after a lengthy absence, defeating Bill Hutchinson in a dominant ten-round decision. However, it was Broner’s post-fight interview that caught the attention of WBC Light Welterweight champion Regis Prograis.
Broner’s victory over Hutchinson came after a series of setbacks kept him out of the ring for nearly 28 months. The fight itself was a one-sided affair, with Broner controlling the action and winning convincingly on the scorecards. Moreover, following his victory ‘The Problem’ even went on to mention several names he would be interested in facing. This included Rolando Romero, Teofimo Lopez, and Josh Taylor but did not include Prograis in his list of potential opponents. This omission did not sit well with the WBC champion, who felt slighted by Broner’s disregard for his status.

The 34-year-old expressed his frustration at Broner’s failure to acknowledge him as a worthy adversary. He openly stated his desire to fight Broner next and hoped that the WBC would make him the mandatory challenger for the title. Moreover, he asked Broner why he decided to leave his name out of possible opponents despite wanting a shot at the WBC title.
“Why Broner refused to say my name? He said everybody but me. But he said he wants the WBC. I’m the only one who has it.” he wrote.

‘Rougarou’ firmly believes that as the current WBC champion, he should be recognized as a top contender for Adrien Broner’s attention. Whether Broner decides to pursue a fight with Prograis or chooses a different path remains to be seen. However, the pound for pound boxer’s promoter Don King is seemingly interested in making another potential super fight with Lightweight star Ryan Garcia.

In the lead-up to this fight, Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya first came out with a direct message for King as well as Broner. He called for a mega fight between the two superstars and told Broner to urge King to make this fight. Moreover, it seems like the 91-year promoter is quite interested in making this fight. In an interview, he revealed that he heard about De La Hoya’s offer and could potentially see Broner taking on Garcia despite his recent loss to Gervonta Davis.
“I’m very interested in what Oscar said, and I think that he’s reaching out, trying to do something for his fighter. Even though his fighter lost to ‘Tank,’ he still is a wonderful fighter, got a great following. “It would be a tremendous match, you know what I mean, so I’m gonna talk to Oscar” he said.
