Legendary boxer Evander Holyfield has teased his return on his Instagram profile. The former world heavyweight champion is clearly eager to step back to the ring. Furthermore, he has spoken about his comeback on multiple occasions. This is in light of his arch-nemesis, Mike Tyson’s comeback against Roy Jones Jr. And it is clearly too much of an attraction for Holyfield to pass off on.

The icon of the sport posted a picture wherein his trainer was wrapping his hands for a sparring session. He captioned it with, “We’re ready”. This is not the first time that Holyfield has expressed his desire to return to the sport.

He has previously said he was willing to fight Mike Tyson for the comeback fight. Consequently, when the fight against Roy Jones Jr was announced, he did not rate it and said a better match-up would be between him and Tyson.

Holyfield has also been training regularly and seems to be in fantastic shape. At 58-years of age, the former champion doesn’t look to be struggling to keep fit, and this is what has pushed his desire to return.

He constantly referenced that his training was not just to keep fit, but to return to the ring. However, ‘The Real Deal’ also voiced his skepticism on a trilogy fight after ‘Iron’ had finished his Roy Jones Jr exhibition.

Who could Evander Holyfield face if he returns?

The biggest problem for Holyfield is his opponent. For obvious reasons, he can not be thrown among the current crop of heavyweights. Furthermore, the only other option in Mike Tyson has just fought an 8-round fight and may not return to the ring anytime soon. So this has put him in a sticky situation with his desire to fight again.

However, with ‘Iron Mike’ stating that he will continue to fight, and also setting up the ‘Legends Only League’, fans can expect a fight later on. Holyfield has already said he is open to fighting the trilogy fight against ‘Iron’; Tyson says he is open to fighting more exhibitions to raise money for charity.

So this could provide him the perfect opportunity. However, despite being ready right now, he may have to wait a while before he can fight. Unless he has a surprise announcement for fans already. Do you think Holyfield will return?
