Evander Holyfield will follow in the footsteps of his arch-nemesis Mike Tyson and make his much-awaited comeback to the boxing ring. However, the former heavyweight world champion has been in incredible shape much before he had a fight. 

‘The Real Deal’ will return to the ring on June 5 against Kevin McBride. The former world champion looks fit and ready to go and shared multiple updates about his training. However, he has now explained why he trained hard even without a fight.

The 44-10-2 boxer spoke to Fight Hub TV on YouTube and said, “I’ve been, you know, practicing for a whole year. But I was doing that just to stay in shape, man. And I kinda felt like, if I stay in shape, you know, the buyers wouldn’t get me. That’s the whole big purpose.”

Holyfield’s comment confirmed that the only reason he trained was to stay fit and healthy. The former champion embarked on an incredible journey and now looks like he did in his prime. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how he does in the fight against ‘The Clones Colossus’.

Why isn’t Evander Holyfield fighting Mike Tyson?

‘The Real Deal’s reason will surprise a few fans who would have expected him to say he was training for Mike Tyson. Holyfield started training at the same time Tyson started and even parroted him several times along the way.

As a result, many suspected that the two fighters would meet next. However, Tyson got into a dispute with Triller, and Holyfield’s camp was unhappy with the offer from ‘Iron Mike’. Hence, the fight fell through, and ‘The Real Deal’ will now face McBride.

Given the shape that Holyfield is in, fans can hope that we will get to witness the highly anticipated trilogy between the two fighters. However, they will have to wait a while before the fight happens.
