According to the latest updates, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford have agreed to a deal to fight on July 29 for the undisputed welterweight championship. While Crawford holds the WBO world welterweight title, Spence Jr. has the IBA, WBC, and IBF welterweight titles in pro boxing. Fans are undoubtedly eager to see the duo share the ring and in Mike Coppinger‘s opinion, this fight will be the most anticipated contest since Mayweather vs. Pacquiao in 2015.
Besides the news of Crawford and Spence Jr. agreeing to fight on July 29, Coppinger of ESPN revealed the guaranteed figure the boxers would make and the bidirectional rematch clause that is part of the match. While Crawford fought his last in December 2022 against David Avanesyan, Spence Jr. had his previous fight against Yordenis Ugas in April of the same year. According to ESPN, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. have agreed to a two-fight deal. The bout will happen in July and both boxers are expected to move up to 154 lbs for the fight. As per Coppinger’s understanding, if the duo split the first two fights, a trilogy is also “overwhelmingly likely“. However, speaking about purses for the first bout on July 29, Coppinger wrote, “Crawford and Spence will each earn eight figures guaranteed for the Showtime PPV fight…” In addition, he mentioned that “there’s a bidirectional rematch clause that the loser can trigger within 30 days after the fight.”

Despite the news of Spence Jr. and Crawford agreeing to a deal, a part of the boxing community feels the bout is way too late. However, who would not want to see the unbeaten stars finally share the ring against each other? While Crawford is currently 39-0-0, Spence Jr. is 28-0-0. Both fighters have competed against some of the best boxers in their division. The only thing that is now left to see is how they would perform against each other inside the squared circle.
