In one of the most unforeseen twists, Sebastian Fundora secured a split decision win over Australian boxing sensation Tim Tszyu last night. In doing so, ‘The Towering Inferno’ became the new unified champion at 154 pounds. And now, the West Palm Beach native has a pretty lucrative fight ahead of him as Errol Spence Jr called him out for a fight!

Before last night’s bloody battle in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, there were talks of Tszyu potentially fighting Terence Crawford next. However, some sources revealed that Tszyu’s corner was also considering a fight offer from Crawford’s former opponent Spence Jr. Regardless, since Tszyu failed to get his hand raised, Spence Jr. took the opportunity to get his foot in before Crawford against the new 154lbs champion.

During the post-fight interview, while Fundora celebrated his victory and adorned himself with the newly acquired belts, Spence Jr. stepped into the ring. Spence said, “Oh, [it’s] time to get it on. He got the big dog now, let’s go.” When asked about his thoughts on Fundora’s performance against Tszyu, Spence seemed impressed.

“I think he learned from his mistakes. He [is] a little bit more settled. He was using his distance, so I think he did pretty good,” said Spence. When Fundora was asked about Spence Jr’s callout, he agreed to fight ‘The Truth.’ “I think it’ll be great. He’s one of the greats right now. He’s one of the pound-for-pound, so if I can fight him and get a win off of him, it’ll be good history for me again,” said Fundora.

Ahead of the fight last night, Leonard Ellerbe appeared in an interview with Fight Hype, where the reporter probed him about who among Crawford and Spence would get the fight against the winner of Tszyu and Fundora. Without a shred of hesitation, Ellerbe said, “Errol Spence.” He went on to suggest, “It’s no knock on Crawford. But Errol Spence Jr. is family.”

As to why Crawford is being snubbed for Spence, Ellerbe had a simple answer for that as well. “[Spence] has a relationship with the PBC, and has had a relationship [for] a number of years… But I think [Terence Crawford has] let it be known that he’s a free agent and he’s not with the PBC. So you know kind of how that goes,” Ellerbe told the reporter.

With that said, Terence Crawford is unlikely to fight Sebastian Fundora, as Errol Spence Jr bags the fight. It’s also worth noting that Spence Jr. was supposed to fight ‘Bud’ in a rematch, but seems to have changed his mind since then. So, it would be interesting to see whether a win against Fundora in the future would convince him to fight Crawford once again. Do you think Spence Jr would steamroll through Fundora?
