It’s been 15 months since Errol Spence Jr last entered the squared circle against unbeaten Terence Crawford. And now, he is looking forward to an October fight against WBO and WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora. However, there’s someone else who wants the smoke as well! Who is it? Well, it’s none other than WBO’s ninth-ranked Chordale Booker. The only catch is that ‘The Truth’ doesn’t seem to be in the mood.

Having suffered the biggest loss of his career (since it was his only loss) last July, the 34-year-old seems adamant about facing Fundora in the ring in what could be his last fight ever. So, when Booker took to social media to call out the former WBA, WBC, and IBF welterweight champion, he seemed to have received a resounding no.

Originally, everyone expected Spence to get right back in the ring against ‘Bud’ Crawford for a rematch, and even Crawford was ready for it. However, after a cataract surgery, Spence’s plans immediately changed. Then, after Fundora defeated Tim Tszyu in a close battle earlier this year, Spence came out of the woodwork to challenge the boxer.

Regardless, Booker turned to X on Friday, writing, “Why not? @ErrolSpenceJr @WorldBoxingOrg ranked 6 vs ranked 9.” It’s worth mentioning that the WBO has placed Spence at the sixth spot in their rankings despite the fact that he has fought just twice since 2020 and lost one of them. Spence responded to Booker’s tweet, quashing the 33-year-old’s hopes: “My guy, you prob can fight yo a** off, but we’re not fighting. Dead a** don’t waste your time.” However, not all hope was lost.

After Errol Spence Jr declined the fight, Booker added, “Bet if we can’t fight, let me come to camp 🫡” And, well, Booker wasn’t left disappointed this time. Spence replied, “Say less.” While we may soon see them training together, it’s interesting to note that WBO’s ninth-ranked boxer isn’t the only one hell-bent on fighting the 34-year-old. As it so happens, Ryan Garcia has some beef to settle with ‘The Truth.’

In April, Garcia managed a shock victory over Devin Haney in their highly anticipated fight, but shortly after, ‘KingRy’ faced accusations of using Ostarine after his A-sample tested positive for it. When a fan suggested Spence should fight Garcia, the 34-year-old tweeted, “I’ll legit beat his ass at the (at&t stadium at 154-160) off the strength of him testing positive but [I don’t] take tune-ups.” That was enough to trigger Garcia, who responded: “I have authorized my lawyer to send ERROL nocents an offer. LETS GO START THE RUMBLE. I GIVE YOU MY WHOLE WORD THAT THIS IS MY NEXT FIGHT UNLESS HE RUNS.”

While Errol Spence Jr has stayed silent after this insinuation, Ryan Garcia has kept at it. He even tweeted a poster of the fight with the potential date and venue: August 10 at the AT&T Stadium. In fact, he even wrote, “You will make a lot of money if you bet I KO Errol Spence Jr just saying.” With news of his one-year suspension after testing positive on his B-sample, it doesn’t look like this fight will happen, no matter how much Ryan Garcia may want it. But that’s not the only reason.

The thing is, Errol Spence Jr’s fight against Fundora might be the last time fans get to see ‘The Truth’ dance in the ring. So, Booker (and Garcia) should really forget about the fight!

A streak of bad luck for Errol Spence Jr

If not anything else, the Crawford fight revealed Spence is not the same as he once was. So, a loss against Sebastian Fundora, resulting in his retirement, makes complete sense. In April this year, he seems to have admitted the same in a now-deleted tweet, which read, “Might be last time you see me.” This, coupled with his injuries both in and outside the ring, suggests retirement might be just around the corner.

After the Crawford fight, Spence revealed he couldn’t see most of Crawford’s punches because of an eye injury sustained from his accident, which had caused him to stay inactive after the Yordenis Ugas fight. Not to mention, he doesn’t even have a head coach right now because of a lawsuit between him and his former trainer, Derrick James, regarding the latter’s payment from most of Spence’s fights.

As things are, Errol Spence Jr. will most likely face Sebastian Fundora in October. So, Booker can forget about a potential fight. But who knows? If Spence could make a great comeback against Fundora, he might not leave the sport after all. That said, do you think it’s time for Spence to hang up the gloves?
