The welterweight division, one of the most packed rosters in the modern era, has three champions in total. While Yordenis Ugas is the WBA welterweight ‘super’ champ, Errol Spence Jr. holds the WBC and IBF belts and Terence Crawford has the WBO strap in his grasp.
They have been active in defending against mandatory contenders, but fans want to see them collide to determine one true welterweight champion. Come 2022, it finally seems that their wish will come true as Spence Jr. declared his intention to box Yordenis Ugas for the WBA, WBC, and IBF welterweight titles in April.

Last year, Spence Jr. was all set to take on his biggest and perhaps the most important title defense against the legend Manny Pacquiao. Unfortunately, a few days before the fight, ‘The Truth’ succumbed to a horrifying eye injury and pulled out.
He later went for surgery, and with time, Spence Jr. recovered well. To fill in his place for the Pacquiao fight, the WBA champ, Ugas stepped in.

Coming in as a heavy underdog, no one expected Ugas to do well against the Filipino Senator. However, the lanky fighter employed his reach and jabs to pull off one of the biggest upsets in 2021.
Not content with one win, he was looking to face more elite opponents. Now that Spence Jr. came up with an announcement, Ugas will be keen to take on his sternest test at this weight class.

Errol Spence Jr. vs Yordenis Ugas – What’s in the bag for the winner?
The winner of this fight will have some elite contests lined up ahead. But more than that, the winner of the Spence Jr. vs Ugas fight will advance to a potential undisputed title fight ahead. That said, the WBO champ, Terence Crawford also seems in the picture.

Boxing enthusiasts have already expressed their interest in seeing Crawford and Spence Jr. face each other. However, before their potential matchup can see the light of day, ‘The Truth’ will have to prove his worth against the scary Ugas.
