The official numbers for the Errol Spence Jr vs Danny Garcia fight are in and will surprise many. The PPV event on PBC on FOX was Spence Jr’s third PPV fight; the event came under a fair bit of criticism for the price. However, it seems to have done much better than some expected; and even surpassed the Gervonta Davis vs Leo Santa Cruz PPV event in terms of buys.

Mike Coppinger from The Athletic reported that there were 250,000 PPV buys from the event. When you consider that they priced the event at $74.99, the fight generated a total of $18,750,000 just from the PPV buys. Furthermore, there were a total of 16,000 fans in attendance on the night which would have generated even more revenue towards the event. Thus showing that PBC on FOX made a fair bit of revenue from this fight.

This event bettered the previous PBC on FOX PPV event in October which involved Gervonta Davis and Leo Santa Cruz. That event was also priced at an expensive $74.99 and generated around 200,000 buys. Therefore, Spence Jr’s card outperformed it by at least 50,000 buys; it showed just how big of a star Spence Jr is.

Though this fight may have done better than PBC’s previous fight, it did not outperform Spence Jr’s previous fights. His last two PPV events against Mikey Garcia and Shawn Porter generated over 300,000 buys, plus had fans in the arenas. So despite this being his first fight after the car crash, it did not outperform his previous fights.

However, it could just be that the profile of the other opponents was much higher in the previous two fights when compared to this one. In the Porter fight, there was a lot of buildup and trash talk before. While with Mikey Garcia, fans wanted to see how he would do in the higher weight class. Either way, this event was a success for PBC and we can expect more fights at this price if it continues to draw them success.
