It’s shaping up to be a battle for the ages as Danny Garcia and Erislandy Lara prepare to square off on September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Set as the co-main event for the highly anticipated Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga showdown, this fight has legacy written all over it. For Lara, the stakes couldn’t be higher. At 41 years old, he’s not just defending his WBA super-middleweight belt—he’s aiming to cement his name in the Boxing Hall of Fame by adding the elite Danny Garcia to his résumé. Lara has vowed to be in “tremendous shape” for the fight, determined to keep his title and continue his reign as the oldest active world champion in the sport.
On the other side of the ring, Danny Garcia is equally motivated, but for a different reason. The 36-year-old fighter is eyeing a chance at becoming a three-division champion, a feat that would solidify his legacy in boxing history. “Two divisions is great, but three is a whole different legacy,” Garcia said in a recent interview. “That’s why I want this Lara fight. It’s the fastest way for me to get there.” But Garcia faces a tough road ahead, entering the ring after a two-year hiatus, with his last bout being a win against Jose Benavidez Jr. in 2022.
Before we dive into the showdown, let’s turn up the hype and explore something every fight fan loves—the iconic walkout songs that have fueled these two warriors as they step into the ring. Who had the more electric walkout? Let’s find out.

Jay-Z and Meek Mill are Danny Garcia’s go-to artists!
On December 5, 2020, in a welterweight unification bout against Errol Spence Jr, Danny Garcia came out to the soundtrack named “Public Service Announcement “ by renowned American rapper Jay-Z. The upbeat hip-hop music with the banging beats provided the much-needed adrenaline rush as he stepped into the ring wearing a purple outfit, and wore a mask. Unfortunately, Garcia lost to Errol Spence Jr. via unanimous decision, and his hope to become a unified welterweight champion crashed and burned.
Moving on to November 8. 2018, ‘The Swift’ fought against Shawn Porter at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, for the vacant WBC belt. The Philadelphia native chose ‘Millidelphia’ as his ring walkout soundtrack which was written and vocalized by renowned rapper from his hometown Meek Mill. Unfortunately, the soundtrack couldn’t inspire him to win. After a hard-fought battle, he lost to Porter via unanimous decision. Yet another time, he lost out on an opportunity to win a title.

On March 4, 2017, then-WBA welterweight champion Garcia headed into a showdown against then-WBC champion Keith Thurman nicknamed “One Time”. At that time, Garcia again chose his hometown’s finest rapper Meek Mill’s soundtrack Litty for his ringwalk. However, the braggadocious hip-hop and trap song couldn’t bring any luck to Garcia as he lost yet another welterweight unification bout. Garcia put Thurman to the test, engaging in a neck-and-neck battle, but eventually lost via split decision.
Furthermore, in a super lightweight title bout against British boxer Amir Khan on July 14, 2012, ‘Swift’ made sure he represented Philly again by making his ring walk to the soundtrack Amen, from Meek Mill’s debut studio album, Dreams and Nightmares. This time the soundtrack gave Garcia the much-needed inspiration to go on to secure a fourth-round stoppage, winning the WBA belt, and adding it to the WBC belt that he won against Eric Morales.
It must be noted that rapper Meek Mill and Danny Garcia are good friends as both hail from Philadelphia. In 2016, the renowned American rap artist even walked him out for his welterweight title defense bout against Samuel Vargas. Now, let’s move on to his upcoming opponent’s powerful walkouts.

Erislandy Lara walkout song: Shoutout to Latin America!
Unfortunately, not a lot of Lara’s walkout songs are available in the public domain. However, his walkout song was recorded for one of the most significant bouts of his career against Canelo Alvarez. That fight is available on YouTube, and you can witness Erislandy Lara walking out to the ring as the groovy, Latin American soundtrack Vivir Mi Vida by Mark Anthony plays in the background. However, ‘The American Dream’ was unlucky on the night, losing out to Canelo via split decision.
Nevertheless, the current oldest champion will be heading into a tough fight against Danny Garcia and has to be in his best form if he wants to defeat the four-time world champion, Danny Garcia.
