The WBC light heavyweight champion talked about the business of boxing, which according to him, lacked discipline and structure. A strong resolve to face whatever fear arises in the heart is necessary to tackle the threat. Though there are do-gooders in the field, it is not all. For Hopkins, a stringent system of demarcation and rules is necessary to ensure the sport does not turn barbaric.

Hopkins went to the depth of the issue. He said “The ones that really mean it, the good politician, the people that are in the game of boxing, some commission is not all. To understand that we need checks and balances in this business. To at least have law there too; as a structure to adhere and go by and if there is any violation, like anything else, you get chastised for it, you get paid, you get punished in so many ways. To do it, so boxing, unlike any other sport in America, is the only sport that is not regulated by any entity other than itself.” Punishment is essential to keep the system in check.
