The coming Saturday, on the 13th of April, Efe Ajagba and Guido Vianello will fight in a crossroads clash at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Top Rank event comes at a time when the heavyweight division is slowly picking momentum with major fights taking their course. In the backdrop of such developments, Ajagba and Vianello square off to further their trajectory into those elite fights.
Bob Arum, the head of Top Rank, explained the premise of this fight brilliantly. He noted, “Efe Ajagba is one of the division’s biggest punchers, but Guido Vianello is a skilled fighter who demanded a step-up in competition.”
While Nigeria-born Ajagba enters the ring within six months of his last thumping TKO victory over Joseph Goodall, his Italian opponent, Vianello, fights two months after his acclaimed 1st-round TKO win over Moses Johnson.

29-year-old Efe Ajagba (19-1-0) turned pro in 2016 with a knockout victory over Tyrrell Anthony Herndon. Since then, he has powered through the ranks by defeating names like Amir Mansour (2019), Iago Kiladze (2019), and Brian Howard (2021). Most of these victories came through knockouts. However, he was defeated by Frank Sanchez in 2021 on points, marking his career’s only loss. The following year, he redeemed himself by knocking out Jozsef Darmos in the second round and has followed suit to date.
His opponent, of the same age, touted as ‘The Gladiator’ (12-1-1), has fewer fights on his record, but his prowess necessitates his position in the same league. After turning pro in 2018 against Luke Lyons, he continued his winning streak till 2020. That year, his fight against Kingsley Ibeh was deemed a draw by a majority decision. The next two years, he started again, winning his bouts against Marlon Williams (2021), Rafael Rios (2022), and Jay McFarlane (2022). However, in January 2023 Jonathan Rice dropped him to the canvas in the 7th round, giving Vianello his career’s sole loss.
Both fighters boast similar career paths, setting the stage for a close encounter. Even their physical attributes suggest a matchup that could swing either way.
