Edgar Berlanga didn’t hold back during his interview with FightHype. The question on everyone’s lips was straightforward: who would come out on top in a fight between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez? Berlanga’s response favored Benavidez. “I think Benavidez because of his punch output. Right now, Canelo is not really throwing a lot of punches, he’s just throwing one or two shots,” Berlanga elaborated, pinpointing a tactical disparity.

He further dissected the strategy required to overcome a fighter of Benavidez’s caliber. “I don’t feel like that’ll beat a guy like Benavidez. For a guy like Benavidez, you got to sit there, you can’t be running around. You got to bite down on your mouthpiece and give them angles.”

According to him, the key lies not just in the number of punches but in how you position and defend yourself in the ring. “I feel like Canelo, with Canelo’s output, it’d be overwhelming for him,” Berlanga concluded. People have been questioning Canelo for not announcing his fight against Benavidez. But, Brandon Moore has revealed what just might be Canelo’s plan.

Canelo Alvarez and his money-making plan

Brandon Moore, the NABF champion, shared his tactical insights on Canelo Alvarez’s potential next opponents, weighing in on the strategic merits of facing either Jermall Charlo or David Benavidez. Moore suggested, “[The] biggest fight [is] him and Benavidez, you know. [The] smartest fight might be him and Charlo.” He admired Alvarez’s approach to potentially fighting both Charlo brothers, saying, “I honestly kind of respect him for [it]. He [will beat] two twin brothers like ‘I beat your family.'”

Moore believes taking on Jermall Charlo first could be a strategic move for Alvarez, stating, “I think he knows like ‘I’m bigger than this Charlo guy, [let’s] knock him out [then] the Benavidez [fight for] that money,’ makes sense.”
