Eddie Hearn vs. Oscar De La Hoya in the ring—who's your money on for the ultimate showdown?

While amateur boxing purely focuses on the sport, professional boxing adds another flare with its ongoing storylines and characters intermingling to create interesting scenarios. Whether it is childhood struggles or a bubbling squabble, fans remain glued to their screens as they ardently follow their favorite athletes to the ends of the earth. However, the marketing does not stop with the boxers under the big lights. Even promoters get in front of the camera in hopes of selling out their events. Similar is the case with Eddie Hearn and Oscar De La Hoya.

Lately, the Matchroom vs. Golden Boy Promotions rivalry has been making headlines. Notorious for their mic skills, both stop at nothing when someone talks down about their roster. Nevertheless, the two promoters also showcase their quick wit when the situation demands. Recently, Hearn extended an unexpected olive branch to De La Hoya, unexpectedly making the Golden Boy’s girlfriend, Holly Sonders, burst into laughter.

As the Eddie Hearn-Oscar De La Hoya feud intensifies, a boxing interviewer couldn’t help but offer an interesting proposal that would embarrass the Matchroom boss. Hearn being Hearn, was more than willing to entertain the unconventional ask. However, the 45-year-old promoter had a condition.

In a recent interview with FightHubTV, the interviewer suggested Hearn and De La Hoya have a boxing match to settle their beef. To his surprise, the British promoter quickly answered, What you have to do is give me an unbelievable, massive bag of money, and I will do it because I am gonna get pasted. You can’t expect me to just get pasted. I will get really badly embarrassed in that fight. But you should know me well enough that for the right amount of money, I don’t have a problem getting (fighting Oscar De La Hoya) embarrassed! But the fun does not end here.

Holly Sonders, Oscar De La Hoya’s girlfriend, quickly caught wind of this interview and responded with amusement. After watching the clip, Sonders set aside personal beef to praise Hearn’s quick wit by flooding the comments section with laughing emojis.

Knowing the evident outcome, whether Eddie Hearn vs. Oscar De La Hoya is worth watching is a debate for another day. However, the interviewer was not the first to make this proposal. Hours ago, the Golden Boy had a callout to make – one that will excite fans

Oscar De La Hoya challenges Eddie Hearn

To stir things up, in the last edition of his Clapback Thursday, De La Hoya addressed a rumor that he wishes to breathe life into as he wishes to earn bragging rights over Eddie Hearn. However, he too had a condition.

“There have been rumors that my company. Golden Boy Promotions may do a five-on-five against Matchroom [Boxing], which is run by my buddy Eddie Hearn. We all know Eddie has the worst record as a promoter, and his fighters aren’t the cream of the crop. But I am always up for giving the fans a good night of fights under one condition.”

“The fights will be contested in a tiny ring so nobody can run. And since we have the best matchmaking in Golden Boy, these are the fights I propose: Vergil Ortiz vs. Boots; Munguia vs. Pacheco; Zepeda vs. Shakur; Oscar Duarte vs. Devin Haney. And the winner of Ramirez-Barboza will take on Jack Catterall,” added De La Hoya.

To conclude, the former 6-division world champion also called out Hearn for a fight, “Now, let’s even make it a six-on-six with me and you, Eddie, in the main events. I see you’ve been taking boxing aerobic classes. So let’s give the fight fans what they really wanna see—me kicking your a**.”

Eddie Hearn’s luck against Queensberry Promotions in their five-vs-five event in June wasn’t great. However, it won’t stop the British promoter from doing such events again. And Oscar De La Hoya can bank on it.
