When you’re a promoter in the blood-rush arena of boxing, you’re never far from a face-off, even if it’s outside the ring. Eddie Hearn, head honcho at Matchroom Boxing, knows this all too well. Fresh from the unexpected exit of boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez, the Brit has been on the receiving end of jabbing critiques from rival promoters. But far from being a weary fighter on the ropes, Hearn has returned with a haymaker of a response.

The boxing magnate’s counterpunch may shock you; his riposte echoes a sentiment that his detractors are driven by jealousy. As the saying goes, every boxing ring has its shadows, but is it merely the green-eyed monster casting long shadows on this pugilistic drama? It all started when boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez decided to leave Matchroom and signed with Al Haymon and PBC. The boxing public was quick to comment on Alvarez’s decision, and soon rival promoters joined the chorus, sharing their thoughts and taking jabs at Hearn. From Oscar De La Hoya to Leonard Ellerbe and Lou Dibella, Hearn has been under fire.

However, Hearn has been unfazed by the criticisms, stating that his detractors are merely obsessed with him and, oddly enough, they are jealous. In an interview with Boxing Social, Hearn hit back saying, “You’ve got Leonard Ellerbe, Lou Dibella, and Oscar De La Hoya all completely obsessed with me. And they are all jealous. They would laugh at that, but they would give their left t**ticle to be in my position with my TV deals, roster, global platform, and schedule. It’s weird to watch someone’s demise so badly … It just makes me work harder, and makes me more determined to win.”

Despite the high-profile exit of Alvarez, Hearn has remained confident about his position in the industry, asserting that Matchroom is well-positioned and he will continue to strive for success. The ongoing feud with rival promoters and the allegations thrown his way have only fueled his determination to win. This captivating saga has only just begun, with Eddie Hearn in the center, standing his ground against his detractors.

Nevertheless, a rival promoter was quick to jump on the bandwagon and pile on Hearn.

Oscar De La Hoya’s Twitter salvo

Oscar De La Hoya didn’t hesitate to air his views publicly. The Golden Boy Promotions head took to Twitter to lambaste Hearn following Alvarez’s switch to PBC. Employing a derisive hashtag, De La Hoya taunted, “#lonesomeEddie, Top Rank will not work with you.”

He didn’t stop there, going further to assert, “PBC thinks you are a joke and we all know how I feel about you.” This a stinging critique that starkly illustrates the promoter wars heating up in the boxing industry.

As we watch this intriguing spectacle unfold, it begs the question – what’s your take on this clash of titans? Do you think Eddie Hearn is in an enviable position, or is he on a solitary path? Share your thoughts and join the conversation.
