Deontay Wilder recently came out as a ‘free agent’. Although he announced his desire to be an independent fighter, at the same time, he also established that his relationship with PBC, his previous promotional banner, is still intact and on good terms. Interestingly, Wilder who has not been a free agent for more than two days now, has a promising future, with a lot of potential bouts he gets to choose from.

His most anticipated bout among the fans is the one against former champ Andy Ruiz Jr. Eddie Hearn saw the opportunity and claimed that he wants to be the one to make it happen. Hearn is a quite famous British promoter who is known for his successful association with fighters like Anthony Joshua, Katie Taylor, Oleksandr Usyk, and Canelo Alvarez.

But there is no connection between him and PBC as such or Deontay Wilder for the moment. So it is safe to say that he’s cooking up something big behind the scenes. Well, he’s also currently busy with another potential bout between Fury and Usyk. And the event might be facing some complications as Eddie Hearn Reveals Why Saudi Isn’t Hosting Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk.

Eddie Hearn talks about Deontay Wilder

Recently, Eddie Hearn appeared in an interview with IFLTV where he talked about the heartbreaking defeat of Leigh Wood against Mauricio Lara via TKO in the seventh round. Wood was a WBA featherweight champion before the fight, but he dreadfully lost it to Lara this Saturday. Hearn shared his views on how Lara came with a left hook out of nowhere.

Then the reporter amidst all the other discussions with Eddie Hearn slides in a question about Deontay Wilder, and asks him whether Hearn wants to “make a play for Deontay Wilder”. To which, the British promoter firmly agreed and said that he’d love to make a play for it, and if he does, he’d definitely strive for the match between Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr. As the drama would be great between the two fighters, and it’s time the fans get to see a “real fight”.

Now the fight between Deontay Wilder and Andy Ruiz Jr has been getting postponed since November 2022, as they were ordered by WBC to fight in the final eliminator. That fight would’ve decided the opponent of Tyson Fury for his world title. But the fight couldn’t take place as both were part of the same promotional banner, so PBC at that time, started looking in a different direction.
