This year, the WBO welterweight champ, Terence Crawford, will have to mandatorily lock horns with Shawn Porter for his title defense. Hence, Crawford’s promoter, Bob Arum, wants to stage this fight in a magnetic setting. Also, since the champ is one of the biggest fighters on Arum’s roster, this fight definitely has to go out big.

However, not only Arum, but other bigwig promoters like Eddie Hearn, too, are eager to secure the rights for this fight. That said, the WBO, on August 23, ordered this bout to go to the purse bids on September 2.

However, as both Crawford and Porter’s teams wanted an extension to sort this out internally, WBO moved the purse bids to September 14. Speaking exclusively to DAZN, Hearn shed some light on this matter.

He said, “I was supposed to [bid on Sept. 2],”

“I send someone to Puerto Rico to bid for that fight and then they canceled the purse bids. They extended the negotiations period. Look, there’s a lot of players in the market at the moment that could be bidding a lot of money for that fight, and we’re one of them.”

“The fighters might even say, ‘OK. Let’s see who bids what. It’s quite a time for purse bids.” (h/t Boxing Scene)
