Well, it’s not a visual that you usually witness. But Eddie Hearn will consider himself one lucky man after the comical stunt he pulled. The British promoter has made a trip to Riyadh, as he overlooks his fighters from the Matchroom Boxing on the biggest card of the year—Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury 2. But when he visited Johnny Fisher before his fight with Dave Allen in the locker room, he almost caught himself a left hook. How did that happen?

Fisher, 25, is scheduled to take on Allen, 32, on December 31 as he looks to rise in the hierarchy and inch close to a world shot. The London native has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in the heavyweight division and has carved out a reputation for himself for his penchant for knockouts. His latest win over Alen Babic in 36 seconds ensured his face was plastered all over the internet. It could also be the reason why he earned a slot at Usyk vs. Fury 2. So, the heavyweight fighter has the potential to be a future star. It was natural for Hearn, 45, to pay him a visit before his fight.

The DAZN shared some amusing snippets from the fight, as the fans could witness how the Matchroom Boxing lynchpin tried to test Fisher’s reflexes. He tried to test Fisher by trying to pinch him in his right glove. It resulted in an instinctive response, where the 12-0 record holder unloaded a left hook. But Hearn pulled back in time and evaded what could have been a devastating punch. True to its caption, “THAT WAS CLOSE.”

The boxing fans could see Hearn all smiles after the whole episode. But why was he smiling? Maybe because of how he evaded an unfortunate end. Or maybe he had a glimpse at Fisher’s preparedness. It all resonated with what he had envisioned before the fight.

Eddie Hearn casts prediction on Johnny Fisher vs. Dave Allen

Hearn appeared in an interview with Ooosch TV, where he discussed the Fisher vs. Allen fight. When asked about the fight, the Matchroom Boxing head honcho detailed how well-prepared Allen looked. He said, “I think it’s actually a tough fight. Because of how Dave Allen showed up. He’s in camp with Jamie Moore and those guys. You can see he’s in shape. He’s had 10 weeks of training… But it’s the kind of test we need for Johnny Fisher.”

Following this, Hearn then gave his analysis of Fisher and how he had planned bigger fights in the future. He continued, “Fisher is kind of, you know, we know he’s a very good domestic heavyweight. This will kind of secure that position, and then we want bigger tests and, you know, the following that he’s got. The whole man is brilliant. The whole family are great, and he’s got the potential to fill arenas in the UK.”

Lastly, Hearn explained how the fight’s result depended on whether Fisher remained calm and came through despite the adversity. He had already called him a “world-class prospect,” and a win could potentially insert him into the title conversation.
