Canelo Alvarez began his 2021 fight calendar with a bang as he secured an exemplary win over ‘Mr. Robot’ Avni Yildirim. With this win, Canelo etched this fight into the history books, adding another feather to his cap. With a successful title defense under his belt, the Mexican wants to challenge the other champions of the 168-pound landscape. That said, he already has a date for his next fight. (May 8)

Post-fight, Canelo’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed the latter’s next outing, wherein he’ll take on the WBO champion, Billy Joe Saunders, in a 12-round war.

Canelo agreed to fight Saunders before stepping inside the ring with Yildirim. However, the Matchroom boss made it official to lure one and all.

Dan Rafael reported the same on his official Twitter handle.

As expected, Canelo dispatched Yildirim in every department. He was already a favorite into this bout and the 30-year-old lived up to pre-fight expectations in a mighty way. In this title-defense encounter, Yildirim barely landed any significant shots on the champion and he took a knee in round 3.

Citing his condition, his corner agreed to stop the fight, giving Alvarez another T/KO finish.
