Matchroom chief Eddie Hearn clearly has an eye for surging talents and has envisioned himself signing lightweight elite Teofimo Lopez somewhere down the line. The Brit promoter already has a roster full of stars with the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Anthony Joshua, Devin Haney, amongst others.

However, he doesn’t intend to stop and has targeted several lightweight boxers from recent times. He doesn’t seem to be rushing for the offers but clearly has outlined certain plans. That said, Hearn recently gave his opinion on potentially signing 135 lbs stars Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, and ‘Take Over’ Lopez.

In a chat with IFL TV, he said, “I really enjoy watching Tank fight, I think he’s a very good fighter. Ryan Garcia has a huge following. But, for longevity, I’d go for Teofimo – I think we’d work well together.”

Teofimo Lopez is under the Top Rank banner, but he has been through several turmoils with promoter Bob Arum. After a successful fight against Vasyl Lomachenko, Teofimo Lopez faced disputes with his promoter. Hence, he has not yet fought as his bout (against George Kambosos Jr) went to purse bids and suffered some unfortunate setbacks.

The initial problems began with finances, as Lopez demanded more. Although Arum could retain the star under his promotion, we can see Lopez explore other options ahead. So, Eddie Hearn can continue aiming at him. Amid so many big names, Hearn, however, doesn’t want to add one name to his roster.

The Matchroom Kingpin has clearly said that he isn’t interested in signing fellow Britisher and the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in a media interaction. Another Top Rank prodigy, Fury, is arguably the biggest star of today’s boxing. But Hearn has a specific reason why he isn’t bringing ‘The Gypsy King’ in his stable.

While promoting Anthony Joshua, Hearn claims he has no desire to add Fury to his stable. Instead, he is looking to stage his fighter, Anthony Joshua, opposite Tyson Fury in a fight for the ages.

There’s no denying, Hearn stands out amongst his competitors for his smart business moves and loyalty to his fighters. Hence, Matchroom Promotions appears to be in safe hands for a long time from now.
