“Very limited.” That’s how Tyson Fury assessed Anthony Joshua and his skills. Why? After all, Oleksandr Usyk has beaten them both. But the British boxer is trying to separate himself from the AJ. That has led to some scathing remarks and flying criticism. It seems Eddie Hearn has jumped amidst the battle of words and shielded his fighter from unwarranted rebuke.

Fury, 36, addressed his shortcomings against Usyk, 37, and also the public’s view of his style. Ever since the defeat, fans wanted him to come forward, walk down, and hit the Ukrainian champion. But easier said than done. So, he told TNT Sports, “If it was so easy; why didn’t Joshua, who is a big strong man, do that? Why didn’t Dubois do it? Those men are limited compared to me.” However, that’s not how Hearn, 45, sees it.

The Matchroom Boxing lynchpin pointed out how focus and rhythm influenced one’s performance. In addition, he explained the nature of sweet science—anyone could have their night. What followed next was unjust judgment.

He told Pro Boxing Fans, “Yeah, look, you know, when you’re on fire, you’re dangerous, and you’re the best in the world. And then when you get beat, you’re overrated. The same thing happened with Tyson Fury, you know. He’s this, he is that.”

Hearn then brought up ‘The Gypsy King’s performance against Usyk. He continued, “He got dropped and beaten up by Usyk in round nine and got beaten, and he’s overhyped. So you know, anyone could beat anyone on their night, and you know that includes AJ beating any of those guys on his night.”

Therefore, for Hearn, boxing remained an unpredictable game, and the same applied to ‘AJ’ defeating any of the big names. But the Watford native faces an uphill task of reviving his career after dropping the fight to Daniel Dubois. But he is not short of options.

AJ conundrum: Daniel Dubois rematch or Tyson Fury fight

The fans believed the obvious path ahead to rematch ‘Triple D’. But Joshua, 35, decided to take a break. While Dubois, 27, is set to make a return to the boxing ring in February, Hearn didn’t rule out a match in May or June. The British promoter told IFL TV, “He still wants to fight him, and AJ will return in May or June. And that might be against Daniel Dubois. Still the biggest fight out there for Dubois.”

Interestingly, in the same conversation, Hearn pitched the idea of the Fury vs. Joshua. The two have been on the collision course for a while. But a fight never materialized. He also noted down how the result of Usyk vs. Fury II might affect the potential fight, as it’s a fight that every fan wants to see, irrespective of their last outings’ results. It remains to be seen whether it comes true.
