Is Eddie Hearn right to call out critics of Turki Alalshikh as borderline racist?

Saturday night’s Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois fight ended spectacularly for ‘DDD.’ But the event itself seems to have garnered a wave of hate. Despite a record-breaking attendance of 96,000+ English crowd, the co-presenter of Talksport’s ‘White and Jordan’ show Simon Jordan isn’t happy with how certain things were done in the event. So, he made his thoughts public, and now, Eddie Hearn & Rick Glasser have shared their views of Jordan’s statement.

Just before the main event of the night at Wembley Stadium, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and his entourage made their way into the ring for their country’s national anthem to be played in the stadium, a truly proud moment for the country that has done so much for the sport of boxing. But Jordan didn’t see it that way.

According to an extensive report from The Daily Mail, the 57-year-old was offended by the fact that Saudi’s national anthem was played in an event held in the United Kingdom, with no fighters from Saudi on the card. He explained that nobody should be denied from the right to invest in sports from other countries.

“I do, however, hold great belief and value in this country, too. With that sense of national pride I found it a tad perplexing to sit in our own Wembley Stadium on Saturday night and listen to the national anthem of Saudi Arabia,” Jordan said. He added that he can’t imagine any fight in Riyadh or Jeddah would feature a national anthem from the promoter’s country.

Jordan then took aim at promoters like Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, claiming they allowed it to happen because doing so would line their pockets. “We are allowing our institutions to be bought and more often those who benefit from it, in this instance the big fight managers and promoters Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn, sit there justifying it because it lines their pockets.”

Jordan’s jabs at Warren and Hearn didn’t end there, as he predicted that the English promoter duo may soon appear dressed in the traditional Saudi thawb. The ‘White and Jordan’ show co-host even brought up Oliver Brown, a journalist from The Telegraph, who was allegedly barred from covering the event after he called it an “unashamed sportswashing exercise.”

Jordan claimed even TalkSport had faced similar problems with events in the country after criticizing the atmosphere of said events. Since these statements started reaching far ends of the boxing community, Hearn saw fit to bring it up during an interview recently while sharing his take on the matter.

Eddie Hearn doesn’t understand people like Simon Jordan

While speaking to Hearn, a reporter from The Stomping Ground brought up Jordan’s claims, prompting Hearn to bring out the report with all the criticism. Reading through, a visibly agitated Hearn said, “I don’t understand it—what is wrong with these people?”

He even questioned what Jordan didn’t like about the event—the investment to put on a great fight or the opportunities for the fighters. Hearn then said, “Are you saying they shouldn’t be here? What the f**k… the most ridiculous… almost borderline racist point that you could possibly make…”

This interview quickly made it on X, where veteran matchmaker and boxing insider Rick Glasser found it. Reacting to Hearn’s statement on Jordan’s view about the Saudis, Glasser wrote, “Happens so infrequently, finally something that @EddieHearn said that I actually agree with.”

It appears despite spending millions, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh hasn’t been able to win over everyone. Simon Jordan clearly had some issues with the Saudi national anthem being played at Wembley, but how fair was it for him to make such bold claims against them?
