Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois was an extravagant affair that exceeded every expectation. Going into the match, AJ was the heavy favorite, but Dynamite Dubois shocked the world when he knocked AJ down and out in the fifth round to retain his IBF Heavyweight title. The very next day after the match, Joshua clarified that he was not done and that he would continue to fight despite the upset. Things got exciting when Eddie Hearn announced a rematch clause in Joshua’s contract.
But a few weeks ago, Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren stated that there was no rematch clause in his client’s contract. Nevertheless, the Queensberry Promotions head and Dubois himself stated that they were ready to honor the agreement and allow a rematch. With Joshua eager to prove himself, Hearn has now revealed the likely venue for the rematch and also addressed the swirling speculation regarding Joshua’s trainer, Ben Davison, who has faced criticism since the fight.

During an interview with FightHubTV, Eddie Hearn emphasized Joshua’s determination to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Since chasing an undisputed title fight is something that won’t be on the card till July or August of next year, staying away from the ring is not a good idea, according to Hearn. “I am not sure coming on the back of that kind of defeat, you want to be out of the gym for too long,” stated Hearn. Furthermore, AJ also knows that a rematch means a direct shot at the IBF Heavyweight title and any other fight does not guarantee that.
The Matchroom Boxing head further added, “If it is up to AJ, straight rematch,” stating the 28-4 boxer’s desperation for the rematch with Daniel Dubois. While there is no deadline, Eddie Hearn is expecting a February 2025 fight between these two giants.
Marcos Villegas then asked whether the fight would once again take place at Wembley. Eddie Hearn cleared the fact that considering the expected window of the fight is in February, it will be a part of the Riyadh Season. Thus, the likely location would be Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. “Riyadh Season runs from October to the end of February, and March. So anything within that period will take place in Riyadh,” asserted Hearn.
After that, the 45-year promoter also answered the million-dollar question that has been plaguing the minds of many boxing fans following Anthony Joshua‘s defeat. So much so, that boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. even advised AJ to dump his trainer for the rematch. Davison came into a lot of scrutiny after the one-sided defeat and almost everyone wanted AJ to switch his trainers again. Upon being asked, Eddie Hearn let everyone know whether there will be a change in AJ’s camp for the rematch or not.

For the past few days, AJ’s trainer Ben Davison was under a microscope as Jones Jr. stated, “I don’t think Ben Davison has been in enough fights. Ben has done a lot of coaching, but it’s hard when you haven’t been there yourself,” questioning the boxing IQ and experience of AJ’s trainer. The statement received a lot of support online as the 34-year-old boxer’s fans demanded the same.

But Eddie Hearn made it clear that the former unified heavyweight champion is not looking for any personnel change. “He’s happy with his training camp. He was in great condition. He was sparring really well. In my opinion, there won’t be any changes,” stated Hearn.

He further added that blaming the loss on the trainer wouldn’t be fair as “there was a clear plan of what to do and he didn’t do it,” expressing that credit should be given to Daniel Dubois who fought brilliantly while AJ was not able to stick to the plan at all.
