In Houston, Ryan Garcia faced a tough challenge from Oscar Duarte, who employed aggressive tactics throughout the fight. Despite some struggles and receiving boos in the eighth round, Garcia turned the tide with a powerful check left hook. Then he followed the game-changer punch by a relentless flurry of punches.

This combination left Duarte visibly affected, ultimately leading to a knockout victory for Garcia with just nine seconds remaining in Round 8. However, it was quite surprising to know that Garcia was not at his 100% during that bout. He got sick right before the weigh-ins. In a podcast appearance, he blamed it on Mike Tyson‘s team.

In the new episode of the PBD Podcast, Ryan Garcia talked about how Mike Tyson visited him the night before his weigh-ins for the Oscar Duarte fight. Tyson called ‘KingRy’ and stated that he wanted to “hang out.” Well, Garcia didn’t say no and then they started talking for hours. After this, Garcia asked Tyson’s permission to sleep and be ready for the next day. It was quite important for him, since he revealed, “I’m dying bro, I’m dying. I’m cutting weight.

Right after saying this, he went on to reveal insider information. He said, “I think one of Mike’s team got me sick. So after that day, I’m sick like I got Covid or something. I’m shivering I’m like, ‘Oh my God how I’m going to make weight.’ I got to start- I’m downing DayQuil, water, crazy. It doesn’t go away, I get enough to lose the weight. And then I’m like, ‘How am I going to fight with this? This is crazy.’ I said, ‘God, what do I do?’” Then he finally found a solution. He explained, “I call my strength and conditioning coach Sip. I said, ‘Sip, what do I do? I’m sick.’ He goes, ‘Do you remember Michael Jordan‘s Flu Game.’ I said, ‘I do remember that.’

So, Garcia went on Google and tried to look for what’s the best thing to do in this situation. And finally, he found his strength and embodied the mentality of none other than the NBA legend, Michael Jordan. However, he still took some remedial steps to cure his sickness.

After consulting Coach Sip, he found out that the coffee might be helpful in such situations. But most importantly, he finally set his foot down and decided to drink as much water as he could. He revealed, “So I drank like seven water bottles, so I’m pissing out everything.” So, this was the first step of ‘The Flash’ to get ready for the bout.

Besides this, he also kept on taking DayQuil and also consumed a lot of coffee. Garcia said, “So I’m sweating it out, I’m doing the DayQuil, I’m doing the water, I’m doing the coffee, I’m doing everything I think I need to do and I don’t do it until I start feeling good enough. I get to a point where I’m like I’m good enough to fight.” As it turned out, Garcia got locked in and knocked out his opponent.
