Finally, a fight almost every boxing fan longed for came in for good. The parleys and online shenanigans that started nearly three years ago will soon become a thing of the past. Nevertheless, many fans still find it hard to believe that Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury will happen on February 26 in Riyadh! After all, it’s hard to blame them. The first fight scheduled on December 18, 2021, toppled as news of Tommy Fury’s chest infection and rib injury filtered in. Then again, the next battle in August last year raised some hopes. But that too met the first one’s fate and collapsed as visa problems prevented the ‘TNT’ from traveling to the US.

A live spat in Dubai during the Mayweather Jr. – Deji Olatunji exhibition and Paul’s subsequent online challenges kept the fire on. Then, come to New Year, news greeted everyone that ‘The Problem Child’ is finally venturing into mixed martial arts. And barely had the update sunk that fans and followers woke up to the news that a fight against the younger Fury would happen.

But given the past instances, many would remain unconvinced. And unfortunately, Jake Paul’s latest tweet didn’t help much to soothe their doubts.

‘The Problem Child’ took to Twitter and shared with his followers an update. It read, Tommy Fury is scared. Told my team he can’t make the kick-off press conference next week in Saudi Arabia because he needs more time to train. Thought you said you wouldn’t even have to train to fight me? You and your papa scared.”

He tagged #MikePerry; as many would remember, the mixed martial artist’s name cropped up a few weeks ahead as one of Paul’s opponents might fight. Before that, the latter had thrown a challenge to Paddy Pimblett too. Fans flocked in large numbers to express their opinions and discuss the situation.

The fire was eagerly awaiting a spark to ignite

@BrandonKodallas compared the younger Fury with Dillon Danis, who recently pulled out of a fight against KSI. He reportedly cited a lack of training and time as the justification behind the decision.

@Si_Fisher urged everyone, particularly Tommy Fury‘s fans, not to make the same tired argument like, “Tommy would smoke Jake,” etc..,” if Tommy Fury pulled himself out of the fight.

@Si_Fisher added that if Tommy Fury stalls again, he’s giving Jake Paul the TKO victory.

Much enthused by the fight, @grimmyyyyyy marched on that Jake Paul is trustworthy and a powerful striker. He further adds that it will end badly for Fury in his hands. In the fourth round, Paul will deliver the knockout punch.

@BigPotatoes1984 asserted that Tommy Fury is bragging on BT Sport about how professional he is. He claims Paul could never enter his mind, yet, the latter has already done so and is preventing him from showing up. Even according to the champion and Tommy Fury’s half-brother Tyson Fury, the former needs to get in Jake’s face and have some words with him.

@dmcknight24 just begged to give up attempting to combat Fury. So trying to reason with him is pointless, according to him.

@KingJenAlt reasoning highlighted that there’s probably more to this than meets the eye. And urged everyone to stop drawing hasty conclusions based on Paul’s statements alone.

Calling the entire episode a giant charade, @bungriemoog seems to be getting the impression that Tommy Fury is frightened. But he asks why ‘TNT’ should be afraid. Shouldn’t he be glad to fight whoever is in front of him, win or lose, as long as he is paid to do it as a professional boxer? Is his compensation contingent upon his success?

Top Rank and ESPN+ are co-producing the event. The event will be streamed live in the US as a digital pay-per-view. Reportedly, the fight has been set for eight rounds and will occur at 185 pounds.

In the co-main event, Badou Jack, a two-time world champion, will go against Ilunga Makabu, the current WBC cruiserweight champion. Also on the same card, Ashton Sylve, from Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and undefeated, will fight Maxwell Awuku.
