After Gennady Golovkin relinquished his WBA Middleweight title on March 10, 2023, Erislandy Lara became the reigning WBA World Middleweight Champion. Though his mandatory opponent was Michael Zerafa, according to WBA, now Lara will be taking on Danny Garcia as his new challenger. Lara was to go against Golovkin for the title but before the purse bid, ‘GGG’ ceded his title and it is Lara now, who’s bearing the torch. Lara’s next opponent, Danny Garcia, is coming off a victory against Jose Benavidez Jr. by a majority decision.

Zerafa, the previous challenger, will reportedly be in the undercard slot of Lara vs. Garcia. Zerafa’s opponent is still yet to be disclosed but his manager, Elvis Grant has assured fans that it would be a more ‘decent opponent’ than his previous rival, Danilo Creati. And the winner of this bout will later have to potentially defend their title against Michael Zerafa.

The fans are excited to see the clash of Lara and Garcia, the fight may take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The Showtime main event will reportedly happen at a 155-pound catchweight, so it will be an interesting event altogether with a ‘jam-packed’ fight card.
