Influencer boxing has become a reality of the sport today. However, a debate persists that differentiates between an abled influencer boxer and one who just does it for the sake of it. Elaborating on this opinion is boxer, Kali Reis.
Reis has found a new avenue to seek public love. She has been cast in the fourth season of True Detective and will star as a lead on the infamous show. While talking to Bleacher Report about her stint in the show and life post-boxing, she also delved deeper into the new phenomena in the sport that started right after she took her last fight in 2021. While explaining her take on influencer boxing, The Rhode Island native also separated Jake Paul from the herd of influencer boxers, showing some kind words on him.

Speaking about the new wave of boxing that influencers have ushered in, Reis told to Bleacher Report, “Do I think it’s a clown act? The only time I think it’s a clown act is when you get two influencers who ain’t trained a day in their life and they’re throwing punches looking worse than like two-year-olds.”

With a record of 19-7, she was a middleweight and light welterweight champion during her career. However, later in a podcast, she revealed that she’s been using the time off from the ring to focus on her reproductive health issues. However, despite being away from her gloves, she’s not away from the sport. An avid supporter of today’s female boxers, she has always been a loud voice for their betterment in the sport.
Identifying the impact Jake Paul, a true influencer-boxer has had on the female boxing scene, she hailed him for the advancements he’s spearheaded. She noted, “Jake Paul’s doing his thing, he’s helping real female fighters. Shadasia Green and Amanda Serrano are his people, and he promotes the hell out of them.” “He makes opportunities for them, sponsorship, eyes, just the networking part and the part that I think a lot of athletes, especially boxers, forget about, the brand and the marketing part, he’s got that down pat. The boy puts in work and I’ve seen him improve, for him. So, I’m not even mad at that,” she added.
Amanda Serrano, the unified featherweight champion will next be seen against Nina Meinke at a San Juan fight. The fight will headline as a co-main event along with Jake Paul’s clash against an undisclosed fighter. The card and the venue, per Paul, is an ode to Serrano’s Puerto Rican heritage.
Reis’ opinion of Paul echoes far and loud today. In 2023 alone, he undertook 3 big fights, winning two of them in much suave. However, for his first fight of 2024, slated to happen on 2nd March, multiple names have emerged as his opponent. One among them remains an Indian boxer.

Reis’ comments come at a time when Paul has had to prove himself again and again as an abled fighter. While he does that, he’s also been subjected to much flak for being someone who’s not traditionally a trainer for the ring. Will the upcoming March fight change the public opinion about him?
