Canelo Alvarez has been defeated twice in his entire career. His first defeat came against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his second defeat came against Dmitry Bivol. While a rematch with Mayweather was not on the cards for him, he has vehemently expressed his interest to face Bivol again. However, the Kyrgyzstan born fighter finds inconsistency in Alvarez’s words and actions.
The Russian boxer thinks that the undisputed champion does not want the rematch despite his offer. Not to mention, given the landscape of the sport, the bout may not happen this year. ‘Cinnamon’ is considering fighting Jermall Charlo in his next fight. How did the landscape of Alvarez avenging his loss change to fighting a light Middleweight? Why is the rematch kept in abeyance? Let’s unwrap these questions and explain Dmitry’s perspective on the rematch being halted.

Dmitry Bivol has proven to be a better boxer than Alvarez when he defeated him back in 2022. One would reasonably expect Bivol to get a bigger share in the revenue since his last bout. However, the offer made by Alvarez does not reflect the same.
It has been reported that Alvarez’s camp has made an offer for the rematch which has the same exact terms as the first fight. And after his defeat to Bivol, the rematch is more pertinent for Alvarez than it is for the Light Heavyweight Champion. Yet, according to the pound for pound boxer, not only Alvarez remains steadfast about the terms of the rematch but he is also not taking into consideration the former’s new demands after his victory over ‘Cinnamon’.
Dmitry Bivol told SecondsOut, “He just wants to find some excuses for him. Of course, nobody says that I wanted the same terms for the rematch.” He adds, “He just doesn’t want it. If he wants to say, ‘I want the same terms.” Evidently, Bivol feels he is worth a lot more than he is offered by Canelito. According to him, the off-court negotiations is being used as a tactic to prevent the rematch from being made as even Alvarez’s camp is aware that Bivol will not sign that offer.
He further explained how Alvarez does not want to fight him despite making an offer, by sharing an analogy. He stated, “I want to fight with Joshua and Fury, but I want to fight on Mars.”
Seems like there is a conflict of interest in the off-court negotiations. Additionally, the Russian underdog’s disaffection indicates that the bout will not take place until the terms of the fight are not changed. Do you think Alvarez is right in making the same offer as he did for the first? In addition, do you see this fight happening in the near future or this year? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
