He said, “I am popular, but I think that I’m chasing legacy. I mean, I don’t care about Instagram followers or nothing like that. I want to make the best fight happen for my legacy more than anything.”

Furthermore, he added, “Instagram followers I mean, that’s cool and all, but I’m not into fighting for followers, you know. I’m in for the fight for a ultimate legacy for my name to live on for forever.”

However, Haney and Garcia once had a heated exchange. At the time, the pair was eager to square off in the ring, but they could not materialize this. As of now, Haney is in no mood to go back and forth with Garcia.

If not Ryan Garcia, then who?

Haney is now the biggest star in the lightweight division. The champ is a unified champion with WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles. After delivering a phenomenal performance, the biggest question for Haney is to find a good fight next.

Though Haney has expressed that he is excited to face anyone, the most probable names he wants to face are Gervonta Davis and Vasily Lomachenko. He told MMA Hour, “Gervonta Davis, Lomachenko, those two pretty much are our top on this.”

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is a five-time world champion in three weight classes. He has held the WBA (Regular) lightweight title since 2019. The southpaw gun is the biggest pay-per-star in the USA and recently outclassed the heated rival Rolando Romero in a highly anticipated matchup.

On the other hand, Lomachenko is a former unified lightweight champion. The Ukrainian is technically the most skilled fighter of this generation. The two-time Olympic gold medalist is the biggest and most certain opponent for Haney. If this fight were to happen, fans would be in for a masterclass as both the fighters are extremely gifted. Lomachenko’s technique is second to none. Therefore, it will be quite a challenge for Haney to defend his titles. But if he were to do it, he would undoubtedly cement his position as one of the best fighters of his generation.
