Will Chisora vs. Whyte III be the ultimate farewell fight, or just another chapter in their saga?

If there is one boxing fight trilogy that the fans want to see, it must be of Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte. Fueled by their deep personal rivalry, the animosity led these heavyweight giants to weave violent magic inside the ring in 2016 and 2018 that captivated fans all over the world.

While Whyte won both battles, ‘War’ was not far behind and the solid contest left the fans demanding more. Chisora had already expressed his desire to complete the trilogy and made the fans hopeful. But, Whyte’s silence on the matter kept everyone at bay. Well, it looks like there is nothing to worry as ‘The Body Snatcher’ made it clear that he would also like the match to happen.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Whyte opened up about his plans for the potential return in December. He further stated his desire to complete the Chisora trilogy out of respect for what both of them have gone through. He stated, “I would love to fight Derek Chisora. I would love to fight him again before he retires, just out of respect.” The mutual respect these two share for each other is astounding, and now that the Mbare native is closing on his twilight years, Whyte wants to recreate that magic once again.

The 30-3 boxer further talked about how the pair of him and Chisora can’t have a bad match. Their resilience and boxing style won’t let that happen and he would like to end the rivalry with one final battle. “I would love to just end it with another great fight. Me and him would have another great fight even if we were 60,” stated Dillian Whyte with a smile on his face.

The first time these two faced each other was on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs. Eric Molina’s main event on December 10. 2016. It was a fierce battle where Whyte emerged victorious by a split decision. The second fight happened 2 years later on December 22, 2018, when these two were the main event at the O2 Arena, in London. Whyte won via an 11th-round definitive knockout. But in contrast to the result, Chisora was ahead on two of the judges’ scorecards before a powerful left hook by Whyte knocked him out.

Both of those battles were brilliant and fans would love to see that again. This might be a perfect fight for ‘War’ to hang up his gloves and it looks like the 35-13 boxer agrees.

Derek Chisora’s farewell dream

After a hard-fought victory against Joe Joyce in July earlier this year, the Mbare native stated that he has no intentions of retiring. According to the 40-year-old, he still had at least two fights in him and teased a match with Dillian Whyte on one specific condition. He stated, “I will have a rematch with Dillian [Whyte] as long as he’s clean 100 percent. There is no point in fighting someone who is not clean, but if he wants a rematch, I’ll give it him,” while issuing the challenge.

Dillian Whyte came under a lot of scrutiny when he failed a pre-fight drugs test just days before his anticipated rematch against Anthony Joshua. Whyte had to go through an extensive investigation, as it was not the first time he faced such allegations. In March 2024, the Texas Commission cleared Whyte of the allegations, claiming a contaminated supplement to be the cause for a failed test.

The Port Antonio native made an impressive comeback against Christian Hammer in Ireland. Since then, he has been inactive and is carefully considering his next move. While there are many options for him, a third match against Derek Chisora almost sounds poetic. The pair will have to move fast if they want this match to happen, considering the age of Chisora and the chances of him losing steam eventually.

What do you think about the third match between Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte? Do you think this pair will still have the same magic? Let us know your thoughts down below.
