Finally, after almost a year, Gervonta Davis will return to the ring in just a few hours. But is it really a Tank return, if it doesn’t come with a dash of drama? As expected, the official press conference leading up to Davis’ March 1 showdown with Lamont Roach, delivered yet another dose of controversy.

The conference was meant to hype up the WBA lightweight Championship event; however, Gervonta Davis turned it into something else. Reporters surrounded the Baltimorean, questioning him about other lightweight contenders, including the newly crowned WBO lightweight champion, Keyshawn Davis.

However, instead of answering the question directly, the Tank downplayed Keyshawn Davis’ title victory, and dragged former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. into the conversation. The jab didn’t go unnoticed, as Kambosos clapped back, potentially sparking the start of a fresh feud.

George Kambosos Jr. showed all the receipts

During the press conference, Gervonta Davis discredited Keyshawn Davis’ victory, claiming that Denys Berinchyk was not a good champion. However, the way the 30-0 boxer decided to express his views was seen problematic. He said, “That guy [Denys Berinchyk] that had that belt, he was worse than Kambosos,” sending the boxing world down a spiral.

George Kambosos Jr. took to ‘X’ and wrote, “Shit ok ya brought me into it now, Hahaha 🍒🍒🍒,” directly replying to Gervonta Davis. Kambosos Jr. laid down his career in the tweet, asserting his dominance over the Baltimorian.

He wrote, “Atleast kambosos has won every belt and stepped to Lopez, Haney twice and Lomachenko in a space of 2 and half years.” Even though Davis has won titles in three divisions, he has only won one title at 140. On the other hand, Kambosos became the unified lightweight champion in 2021, after defeating Teofimo Lopez for the WBO, IBF and The Ring Lightweight titles.

Ferocious also noted how he has fought the likes of Teo, Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko in the last four years. Despite losing three out of those four fights, “that’s 3 half of famers, top 10 P4P fighters,” he wrote. Once again asking the Baltimorian, “How many top 10 P4P fighters you fought in the last 2 and half years.”

Gervonta Davis accused of cherry picking

After comparing achievements to assert his superiority, George Kambosos Jr. also acknowledged Tank’s comment directly. While it is true that Kambosos does not have any successful title defense to his name, he was undefeated before he facing Devin Haney. Ferocious fought Haney twice and took both fights the full distance. Kambosos knows that while his title reign did not amount to much, he did not shy away from any challenge. Something he has long accused Gervonta Davis of.

“To worried about ya zero, you cherry picking dwarf. You ain’t no Gangsta, real gangstas step to anyone, you on the witness protection service. 😘 @Gervontaa,” wrote Kambosos, referring to the criticism Gervonta Davis has been getting for a while now.

Once again, Gervonta Davis’ press conference antics have shifted the attention away from his upcoming match. Davis has a reputation for stirring up controversy. With a history of feuds that end up stealing the spotlight away from his performances in the ring. Especially during his escalation with Floyd Mayweather Jr., where he said he would knock out his former promoter.
